BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that the United States voted last week on $13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine following Russia’s ongoing ground invasion and airstrikes. One day after Joe Biden approved large-scale funding for Ukraine, the US president announced a spending package for another $ 200 million.
The predominant supplies to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion until now are mainly portable anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as anti-tank missile systems, tens of thousands of ammunition, bombs, body armor, helmets, medical supplies, materials, and more. Ukraine continues to urge NATO to close its airspace over Ukraine. Poland was ready to provide its Russian MiG-29 fighters to help Ukrainian pilots, but the United States refused to fund the “Polish maneuver.”
Today, the Associated Press reports that Zelensky says he’s prepared to discuss a commitment from Ukraine not to seek NATO membership in an exchange for a cease-fire, the withdrawal of Russian troops, and a guarantee of Ukraine’s security.
Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun
The Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun is one of the few weapon systems to be used in today’s modern battles, although it was designed during the First World War by John Browning. Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun has a rich military history after being involved in over 20 wars and armed conflicts.
Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun has a length of 1,654 mm and weighs 38 kg, but is attached to a trip with it reaches a weight of 58 kg. The action of the machine gun is known as a short recoil – a working mechanism used to apply a locked shutter, automatic loading firearms.
The Browning Machine Gun works with a .50 in [12.7 mm] caliber cartridge. The gun’s rate of fire is 450-600 rounds/min or 750-850 rounds/min depending on the modification of the heavy machine gun. The Browning’s feed system is Belt-fed [M2 or M9 links]. It can hit a target at a distance of 7,400 meters but is most effective at a distance of 1,800 meters.
Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun as a sniper
Interesting fact: Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun can be used as a long-range rifle or sniper rifle. Soldiers during the Korean War used scoped M2s in the role of a sniper rifle, but the practice was most notably used by US Marine Corps sniper Carlos Hathcock during the Vietnam War. Using an Unertl telescopic sight and a mounting bracket of his own design, Hathcock could quickly convert the M2 into a sniper rifle, using the traversing-and-elevating [T&E] mechanism attached to the tripod.
When firing semi-automatically, Hathcock hit man-size targets beyond 1,800 meters [2,000 yds] —twice the range of the standard-caliber sniper rifle of the time [a .30-06 Winchester Model 70]. Hathcock set the record for the longest confirmed kill at 2,250 meters [2,460 yds], a record which stood until 2002 when it was broken in Afghanistan by Canadian Army sniper Arron Perry
