Izvestia says that the 440th Helicopter Regiment in the Vyazma region will be the first unit to receive the new helicopters. “Helicopters will be delivered to other regiments and brigades after 2022.”

The Mi-8AMTSH-VN helicopters are manufactured by the Russian Helicopters company. The company’s CEO Andrei Boginski told Russia’s TASS news agency that the first batch of helicopters to be delivered was produced in November 2021, and said: “We have orders for helicopters for this and next year.”

The Mi-8AMTSH-VN helicopter can land commandos and paratroopers behind enemy lines and provide fire support. Helicopters are equipped to perform their duties in all weather conditions day and night. Mi-8AMTSH-VN will significantly strengthen the helicopter regiments.

According to Izvestia, the Mi-8AMTSH-VN helicopter is designed according to the experience gained in the Syrian war for a joint operation of commandos and paratroopers in the rear of the enemy. “It must fight an army equipped with modern air defenses,” it said.

The Mi-8AMTSH-VN helicopter is available in two versions, light and heavily armed, and is equipped with a new radar. The helicopter’s weapon systems were developed in the light of experience gained in the Syrian war.

It is equipped with two 12.7 mm machine guns, a new pilot and navigation equipment, electronic-optical system. The helicopter is equipped with a digital autopilot and a built-in defense system that automatically detects missile launches. In addition, the cockpit, cargo hold, and floor of some sections have armored protection.

“The new radar increases the range of detection and identification and can accurately detect meteorological conditions over long distances,” said Andrei Boginski, chief executive of Russian helicopters.

The cargo cabin with a length of 5.34 m and an effective area of ​​12.5 m² has a load capacity of 4000 kg, while the external load capacity is 4000 kg. With a maximum take-off weight of 13,000 kg, the helicopter can carry up to 36 personnel and can carry up to 12 wounded on stretchers in the helicopter configuration for an ambulance.

The standard equipment of the MI-8AMTSH-VA helicopter includes cabin and cargo cabin heating systems, improved insulation materials, lighting fixtures, air data measurement systems, and illuminated signaling devices.
