It is stated that the missile has a range of 1450 kilometers. The launch of the missile coincided with the celebrations of the 43rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
The missile, which was developed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and uses solid fuel, is claimed to be in the third generation long-range missile class with high maneuverability. However, BulgarianMilitary.com reminds us that a long-range ballistic missile is one with a range of at least 3,500 km [IRBM or ICBM]. The Iranian missile is a medium-range ballistic missile [MRBM].
As reported by Army Recognition, the weight of Kheibar Shekan missiles is one-third compared to their counterparts. This reduces the time it takes to launch by a factor of six. It is also claimed that the Kheibar Shekan missile has high maneuverability against air defense systems.
Introduced during the Nuclear Deal talks
The introduction of the Kheibar Shekan missile drew attention after the resumption of international negotiations after the Nuclear Agreement between Iran and the International Community in 2015. On one side of the agreement are Iran, on the other side the UN Security Council members and the EU. With the agreement, it was planned that Iran would put an end to its nuclear program, and in return, the heavy sanctions and embargoes that had been going on for many years would be lifted.
The agreement signed under Obama has been described as an “essentially flawed” agreement under Trump. In the following period, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and imposed harsh sanctions on Iran.
When Biden gave positive messages to become a party to the agreement again, negotiations were started again by the parties to the agreement. In this context, negotiations were initiated in Vienna with the Presidency of the European Union.
