Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil is the General Manager of Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. and spoke on local television station A Haber about Turkey’s participation in the Malaysian tender in which TAI is participating. “Turkey has already ordered 16 of the TAI Hürjet light training and combat aircraft. Turkey needs this aircraft, which is much more economical than the American F-16,” Kotil said in an interview. Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil confirmed to the television audience that the plane carries a ton of explosives, is powered by a jet engine and according to him, this plane has a place in international markets.

“I hope our offer to our Malaysian friends will be positive. There is a tender procedure and we are participating in it by offering – three aircraft to be produced in Turkey and 15 to be manufactured in Malaysia under license,” Kotil said.

What is Malaysia looking for?

Late last year, Malaysia launched a tender for the purchase of 18 light combat aircraft needed by the Royal Malaysian Air Force [RMAF]. According to local Malaysian sources, six companies have so far submitted tender documents. These are: Korea Aerospace Industries with their light combat aircraft FA 50, China participates with L-15, Italy participates with Leonardo M-346, India offers Malaysia Tejas and the Russian Federation offers MiG-35.

Before the launch of the auction in Malaysia, there was public opinion that the Pakistani-Indian JF-17 fighter was the favorite to win the auction, but later it turned out that this aircraft did not participate or was not allowed to participate in the tender procedure.

According to unconfirmed information, Malaysia is ready to pay up to $ 960 million for the light fighter jets requested by the Asian kingdom.

Turkey is expected to receive its first TAI Hürjet simulators for the Air Force by the end of 2025, and by the end of 2027 to receive the first units of the TAI Hürjet – C version, which is the combat version of the aircraft. BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that in mid-January this year, Turkey unveiled the process of producing the first prototype of this aircraft.

“We participated in this auction and submitted our proposal. We are currently in the process of evaluation. We expect the decision to be made in the first quarter of this year, by March 2022,” said TAI Deputy Executive Director Attila Dogan on January 11.
