Iran unveiled new UWS – 30mm AGL, 30mm cannon, NSV 12.7mm

TEHRAN, ($1=42,250.00 Iranian Rials) — The Iranian Tasnim News Agency published photos of a developed and manufactured Iranian unmanned weapons system [UWS] mounted on a Russian BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle. Tasnim says the new weapons system is the work of the Research and Self Sufficiency Jahad Organization [RSSJO] of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Iran claims that the new system can be easily integrated into various infantry vehicles – tracked, wheeled, unmanned armored vehicles. However, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has decided to present the new weapon through the Russian BMP-1 IFV.

BulgarianMilitary.com reminds us that the original Russian armored vehicle for infantry is equipped with a 73mm gun-type 2A28. This gun is known for its low pressure and very short recoil. The total weight of the 2A28 is just over 115 kg. Despite the initial good performance in its production, BMP-1 IFV did not “garner” Russian fame and has suffered several failures over the past 20 years, especially in terms of strength and efficiency of the turret of armored vehicle.

What does the Iranian UWS include as a weapon?

The main gun is a 30mm Russian gun model 2A42, which is automatic and again characterized by low pressure and short recoil. To the left of the weapon system, a 7.62 light machine gun can be seen, and next to it there is an integrated 30 mm automatic grenade launcher. Parallel to these two weapons, to the right of the turret, there is an integrated heavy machine gun NSV 12.7mm

Tasnim News Agency says the new turret is equipped with a modern fire guidance and control system, which allows shooters to control the entire station from the inside of the hull. The turret is stabilized, says Tasnim.
