Brazil’s JAS 39 Gripen receives multi-domain MANET datalinks
BRASILIA, ($1=5.49 Brazilian Real) – The Brazilian Air Force [FAB] has successfully tested E-LynXTM Airborne Software Defined Radio, an Ad Hoc network communication system [MANET] based datalinks [both air-to-air and air-to-ground]. The tests are part of the Brazilian program to upgrade the communication capabilities of the Brazilian Air Force – Link-BR2.
- Brazil’s Gripen fighters received the best air-to-air missiles
- Next-gen Gripen comes with a GE engine, AESA radar, and IRST
- Brazil plans to start developing and manufacturing a hybrid military aircraft
The tests were carried out after the E-LynX communication system was integrated into the Northrup F-5 fighter of the Brazilian Air Force, which has 45 such aircraft. During the tests, the F-5 and ground teams jointly intercepted a target. The F-5 received information from ground-based radars and quickly close the communications circuit via sensor-to-shooter loops as part of the multidimensional arena.
The tests give the green light for Brazil to start integrating the communication solution into its weapons systems. According to information from the Brazilian Ministry of Defense, the JAS 39 Gripen fighters are the next in line to receive the Israeli-made E-LynX.
Link-BR2 is the Brazilian solution to unify the communication of all military in the country, whether by water, air, or land – something that did not exist until 2020. The program has a long period of development, with the original idea emerging nearly 12 years ago in 2010.
The program is developed entirely by the local company AEL Sistemas, which is a subsidiary of the Israeli company Elbit Systems. Link-BR2 is of strategic importance to Brazil. The program is developed and works under an encrypted protocol with a high degree of security. The Link-BR2 will allow simultaneous and joint communication, as well as data exchange between the F-39E Gripen, F-5M, A1-M, and A-29 Super Tucano, between ground combat units and between unmanned aerial vehicles.
E-LynX is a product of the Israeli company Elbit Systems, but in Brazil, the tests with the local air force are performed jointly with AEL Sistemas. E-LynX is a precise high-quality communication radio system that connects all participants from the main military domains at the same time – air, water, and ground.
E-LynX technology is based on IP-based routing of voice sessions, combined with two-way data transfer performed in an extended range. This whole simultaneous process can be performed both in broadband waveforms and in the narrowband spectrum.
