ROME, ($1=0.88 Euros) – The infantry of the Italian army will be equipped with new ground equipment, which includes 14 VBM in the Mortar Door version and 26 VBM command posts [13 of which in the Nucleo version], learned BulgarianMilitary.com, referring to the Italian portal Analisidifesa. Armored vehicles have some innovations specifically integrated for the needs of the Italian army. Galileo satellite navigation will be integrated into the vehicle software infrastructure. BulgarianMilitary.com reminds us that Galileo GPS is a system developed by the Italian company Leonardo under a program of the European Union.
The vehicles have the latest generation of sensors installed. They are part of a completely updated CIS system, the four-channel SDR VQ1 radio, a new C2D / N Evo control system, C4I integration, and an experimental satellite receiver that will connect not only with Galileo but also with the US navigation satellite system.
The new infantry vehicles have an updated Leonardo weapon tower, which is equipped with additional electronic sensors that must interact with Janus D and Lothar D optical systems integrated into the machines.
The cars have an increased power of 66 horsepower compared to the standard package of 550 horsepower. The drive is hybrid electric and the engine is upgraded to Common Rail technology. The drive is done through wheels on the five axles of the chassis, three of which are steerable. The engine is Cursor 16.
The Italian portal Analisidifesa says the contract was signed late last year on the penultimate day of December. The vehicles are part of “Phase 2” of the contract and the renewal of the country’s ground forces and will be put into operation in the Second Medium Brigade of the Italian Army.
The company says these infantry vehicles have significantly improved payload characteristics. They can move loads from 25 to 32 tons.
