Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle or AMPV program of the US government, which aims to replace obsolete M113 armored personnel carriers. To this end, in 2014 the Pentagon awarded a contract for the design and development of AMPV, which was later won by BAE Systems. According to the agreement, BAE Systems is to produce and deliver 2,897 AMPV units to the US military.

A prototype was released in 2016, which passed tests, and serial production began in 2020. The deal is valued at nearly $ 10.723 billion, making nearly $ 3.7 million per unit price.

The design of BAE Systems for the new AMPV is based on two other legendary military systems – Bradley and Paladin. According to preliminary data, the new AMPV of BAE Systems must be highly passable in any terrain, be mobile, and have integrated management. In addition to BAE Systems, several other companies take over the design and production of key components for the complete set of the machine. For example, DRS Technologies will have to integrate management and distribution systems, Northrop Grumman will take over the full mission command package, and Air Methods Corporation will be responsible for the Army Medical Depot and treatment.

The AMPV of BAE Systems is characterized by improved armor as well as jet armor against missile attacks. There are improved floor protections on the chassis of the vehicle, as well as automatic fire extinguishers in the crew and other compartments.

The armored vehicle has an increased driver’s field of vision that assists maneuverability in close, urban combat. Situational awareness and maneuverability are further enhanced by the integrated course reference unit. AMPV takes advantage of Bradley and M0109A7’s proven propulsion and suspension to provide proven all-terrain mobility, allowing it to maneuver with the rest of the ABCT.

The AMPV has improved network connectivity and the ability to go beyond visibility by adding hardware and software for digital satellite communications.
