Russia talks about security and its own bases in Latin America
MOSCOW, ($1=76.17 Russian Rubles) – Russia is thinking about its security in the current situation, but on the issue of the possible deployment of Russian military infrastructure in Cuba and Venezuela, we must not forget that we are talking about sovereign states, said Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
- Russia is rearming with RS-24 Yars thermonuclear 20 Mach ICBM
- Russia: We may send troops to Cuba and Venezuela because of US
- Because of Russia, the US wants Ukraine as a ‘NATO Plus’ country
“We are still talking about sovereign states, let’s not forget that. Of course, in the context of the current situation, of course, Russia is thinking about how to ensure its security,” Ria Novosti quoted Peskov as saying that Russia’s military infrastructure in Latin America is possible or impossible.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov Ryabkov said that Moscow could hold events through the Navy in response to US provocations. At the same time, he refused to confirm or reject the possibility of deploying Russian military infrastructure in Venezuela or Cuba.
“It all depends on the actions that our American counterparts will take,” he said in an interview for RTVI television on January 15.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, for his part, said the United States would respond decisively if Russia deployed troops in Latin America. The United States has promised to respond in the event of a Russian force deployed in Latin America
What Jake Sullivan said?
Sullivan said the United States would “react strongly” if Russia “moves in that direction.” According to him, this topic was not discussed in Geneva on January 10, TASS reports.
We recall that talks were held in Geneva between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. Ryabkov told the media that Moscow could hold events through the Navy in response to US provocations. At the same time, he refused to confirm or reject the possibility of deploying Russian military infrastructure in Venezuela or Cuba.
