Japan increased its defense budget to buy Patriot PAC-3 MSE

TOKYO, ($1=113.32 Japanese Yens) – Japan is significantly increasing its additional defense budget. On November 26, Kishida Fumio’s cabinet offered Tokyo to supplement its possible spending plans with an additional $ 6.7 billion, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, citing Defence 24. Arguing this with the need for regional security, which is becoming increasingly complex due to the activities of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Russia, and, above all, China.

Thanks to such additional funds, Japan will break its next record for post-World War II defense [the Japanese country must have a total of 6 trillion yen]. Thus, the jump in costs has been maintained for seven years in a row. Moreover, Tokyo is abandoning the limit of 1 percent of GDP on defense, which is in line with politicians’ assurances about plans to spend 2 percent of GDP on national security and defense. Currently, with the increase of the additional budget, it is about 1.3 percent. GDP of the country. At the same time, Japan must now reach the level of defense spending within the range already known in the defense budgets of Germany and France.

The additional funds currently planned should be converted into both purchases and modernization processes in the Japanese self-defense forces, but they also allow for the improvement of the military equipment used by its military and by the American ally. In terms of equipment priorities, the additional budget will largely provide new opportunities in the field of air and missile defense, which is currently crucial for Japan. The missiles must be acquired – Patriot Advanced Capability 3 [PAC-3] Missile Segment Enhancement [MSE] with technical support. In addition, efforts are being made to strengthen resistance under the KBSAM program to counter the possibility of a hostile attack on its military bases using cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles. The ground component will be able to rely on an additional medium-range air defense injection based on the improved versions of the Chū-SAM Kai Type-03 systems.

Another important area where it was necessary to increase defense funding was air reconnaissance and naval capabilities. That is why there is talk of three additional Kawasaki P-1 naval patrol vehicles. The naval component of the Self-Defense Forces will receive several new torpedoes, missiles to combat naval targets, and two new frigates will receive systems from vertical launchers. Purchase plans also include a new Kawasaki C-2 transport aircraft or 13 new Subaru UH-2 multi-role helicopters.

Objectively, these are additional measures regarding the military base under construction on Ishigaki Island. Financial support for the initial budget plans should also be translated into further work on the US Marine Corps in Okinawa, Henoko. The Japanese want to significantly support their defense industry, so additional budget funds will be allocated to companies largely for future procurement. However, their payment at the moment is to speed up the whole process of obtaining them, but above all to ensure the stability of its own arms production segment during a pandemic. This creates a kind of injection of funds, which is a bridge between the current budget and the next.
