Ukraine confiscated 500t of Russian weapons for nearly $38M

KYIV, ($1=26.16 Ukrainian Hryvnias) – During numerous searches, SBU officers found smuggled weapons and spare parts for more than 500 tons, learned, citing Defense Express.

The Ministry of Defense received a large consignment of weapons, ammunition, and spare parts for military equipment confiscated by SBU officers.

According to the press service of the law enforcement agency, the total value of this arsenal is about 1 billion hryvnias [$38,2 million – ed.], weight – more than 500 tons.

The party of the transferred armament, according to SBU, includes:

  • weapons (grenade launchers);
  • ammunition (mines and grenade launchers);
  • explosives (TNT);
  • 36 5B27D missiles (part of SAM 125 Pechora) and related equipment;
  • components for firearms;
  • engines and components for aviation equipment (Mi-24 helicopters, Su and MiG aircraft);
  • components for military armored vehicles (BMP, BRDM, armored personnel carriers, tanks), anti-aircraft missile systems, and MLRS;
  • phosphoric and hydrochloric acids.

It is noted that such a large procedure of transferring confiscated military property, which was under arrest, was performed for the first time in the history of Ukraine.

The SBU also noted that their actions could harm the illegal actions of Russian state companies that tried to use the territory of Ukraine for the transit and storage of weapons.

“Russian state-owned companies used the territory of Ukraine for the transit of military goods and an unspecified purpose accumulated them on the territory of Ukraine, but not as military property, but as technical property of general use. The SBU opened criminal proceedings on this fact,” said SBU spokesman Artem Dekhtyarenko.
