“Wang Yi noted that the issue of Taiwan is the most sensitive issue between China and the United States. If approached in the wrong way, it will undermine and cause global damage to Sino-US relations,” the media said.
The Chinese diplomat noted that the situation in the Taiwan Strait region has recently worsened due to attempts by the Taiwanese authorities to violate the principle of the existence of a China, “this was also facilitated by the cooperation and support of the American side of the Taiwan Independence Force.”
Wang Yi said that “stopping the trend towards Taiwan’s independence means maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait.”
“We advise the American side to be aware of the seriousness of the dangers of a policy aimed at ‘Taiwan independence,’ but they have done something else,” Wang Yi said.
Wang Yi also expressed China’s serious concerns about various issues on which the United States violates China’s legitimate rights and interests, and asked the United States to “change its tone and promote a return to Sino-US relations on a healthy path.”
The two sides also exchanged views on important issues such as climate change, energy supplies, Iran’s nuclear program, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Myanmar, and Afghanistan, and expressed readiness to maintain a dialogue to address various global issues.
The US State Department, reporting on the meeting, said: “Blinken stressed the importance of maintaining open lines of communication to take a responsible approach to competition between the United States and China.” He pointed out the areas where the interests of the two countries intersect and where we can work together – the DPRK, Myanmar, Iran, Afghanistan, and the climate crisis,” the US State Department said in a statement on Sunday.
The meeting took place in Rome as part of the G20 events.
