Hypersonic weapons in the U.S. The formation of Dark Eagle began
WASHINGTON – At the end of September 2021, the US Army received the first two ground launchers for hypersonic missiles of the LRHW [Long Range Hypersonic Weapon] complex, also officially called the Dark Eagle, learned BulgarianMilitary.com. Deployment of such a battery should take place by 2023, hypersonic missiles in the US Army will play the role of long-range artillery capable of striking the enemy at a distance of up to 2800 kilometers.

These launchers were mounted on semi-trailers transported by Oshkosh HEMTT A4 M983A4 Patriot tractors – the same chassis is used for Patriot SAMs.
In addition, large-scale models of LRHW missile transport and launch containers were transferred, and all of this equipment was received by one of the units of the 17th Field Army Artillery Brigade, according to The Drive portal.
It is noted that both received launchers received their names – Stormbreaker and Hyperion, on each launcher there are two transport and launch containers for LRHW missiles.
This event with the transfer of the first two ground launchers for hypersonic missiles marked the beginning of the formation of the first battery of hypersonic missiles in the US Army, the formation and deployment of this unit should take place by early 2023.
The firing range of the Dark Eagle complex will be up to 1800 miles or up to 2770 kilometers. It is anticipated that as new hypersonic missile systems arrive, these Dark Eagle systems will be reduced to “Strategic Fires Battalion” divisions as part of US Army artillery.
It is noteworthy that the standard fire control systems of the missile forces and artillery of AFATDS in version 7.0 will be used to control the fire of the batteries of hypersonic missile systems Dark Eagle.
In essence, Dark Eagle hypersonic missile systems will play the role of long-range artillery for the US Army, capable of striking the enemy at a distance of up to 2800 kilometers.
