Provocation or intentions? China sent 38 warplanes near Taiwan

TAIPEI, ($1=27.77 Taiwan New Dollars) – The Chinese Air Force dispatched 38 warplanes on Friday into the island’s designated air defense identification zone, a record number since Taiwan began publishing such reports, learned, citing CNN report.

According to the Taiwan Ministry of Defense, Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force planes sent aircraft towards Taiwan in two waves. In the afternoon, 25 planes flew towards the island, in the evening – another 13.

The ministry clarified that during the day 18 J-16 fighters, four Su-30 fighters, two H-6 bombers, and one Y-8 anti-submarine aircraft participated in the maneuvers, in the evening – ten J-16s, two H-6s, and one early warning aircraft KJ-500.

CNN notes that Chinese military aircraft have not violated Taiwan’s sovereign airspace.

On October 1, China celebrated the Day of the formation of the PRC, the TV channel recalls.

The Taiwan question arose in 1949 when the communist People’s Republic of China was proclaimed, and part of the Kuomintang party settled on the island of Taiwan. Beijing insists on the “one China principle,” according to which both the PRC and the Republic of China in Taiwan cannot be recognized at the same time. At the same time, almost all large states have unofficial cultural and economic offices in Taipei.

Taiwan creates coastal defense brigades

As we reported earlier this year, the Taiwanese Government creates five additional coastal defense brigades, according to Taiwan News. The changes are to be carried out by the end of 2023, and then Taipei is to have 12 such units to increase the coastal defense capabilities. From 1 January, Taiwan has send one of the brigades to the most sensitive regions in the north and south.

It was stated that the formation of new brigades is to carry out by reorganizing the current human resources of the local armed forces. The priority, which is currently showing the state’s increased resistance to a possible enemy landing operation, was indicated.

The Taiwanese authorities focus on increasing their armed forces’ capabilities through their structural reforms and modernization of weapons resources. Everything is dictated by the increasing military pressure from the People’s Liberation Army.
