China is currently hosting the international space exhibition Airshow China 2021, which will last from September 28 to October 3, 2021. One of the exhibits at the exhibition Airshow China 2021 is a tactical missile system with Chinese development WS-600L, writes the resource Dambiev.

It is noted that such a missile system has a range of up to 290 kilometers and can fire at both ground and surface targets. It is also known that at the request of the customer the complex WS-600L can receive a “container” version.

At first glance, it may seem that a tactical missile system with a range of up to 290 kilometers, which can hit both ground and surface targets and can receive a “container” performance – is a promising niche that will have many buyers.

The paradox, however, is that China has not yet found a customer for its WS-600L missile system. Moreover, such a complex has not yet interested even the Chinese military, although it seems that such a complex should become an “ideal weapon” to create a “closed access zone” at sea.

The VPK portal says that the first presentation of the WS-600L took place in November 2018, during the China Airshow 2018. The authors of the portal note that the exterior of the WS-600L is similar to the S-300 or its licensed Chinese copy of HQ-9.

Details of the development history of the WS-600L complex are not publicly available. Therefore, we can assume that its developers from the Sichuan Academy of Space Technology worked on their initiative, without a separate order from the PLA.

Contrary to its exceptional features, the WS-600L currently has only an “exhibition” application. This example shows that some military designers should undertake the adaptation of various air defense firing systems, both on land and at sea, only if there is a suitable order from the armed forces of the country of origin or export customers.
