WASHINGTON – US President Joe Biden on Thursday will sign a decree requiring all federal employees to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to The Washington Post, citing a source familiar with the American leader’s plans, learned

According to the source, vaccination will be mandatory without any alternative in the form of regular testing for coronavirus. Biden is expecting to announce at 5:00 p.m local time [10:00 pm London time]. The new order will affect about 2.1 million people.

According to The Washington Post, Biden made this decision in connection to develop “a reliable plan to stop the spread of the” delta “variant of the coronavirus and increase vaccination against COVID-19.”

It is noted that the American president also plans to call for a global summit to be held later in September within the framework of the UN General Assembly on responding to the coronavirus crisis and strengthening the supply of vaccines to developing countries.

In late July, Biden announced that U.S. federal officials should either be vaccinated against the COVID-19 coronavirus, or follow safety precautions at work, such as wearing a mask, adhering to social distancing rules, and periodically taking COVID-19 tests. Moreover, according to Biden, unvaccinated civil servants will not be sent on business trips.
