Terrorist rocket attack on Kabul airport, US air defense is activated

According to him, there were at least five missiles, they were fired in the direction of Kabul International Airport, and the American air defense system was activated. It is not known how many missiles it intercepted, whether there were any damage or casualties.

The news was officially announced by both Russian news agencies and the British daily The Independent. Russian sources claim that for several days the US military has deployed air defense systems in the area for this purpose – to prevent a missile attack.

According to unconfirmed information, the shelling was carried out with a missile system with multiple launches. An American source in the British daily Independent claims that all five missiles were intercepted and successfully shot down. The attack is believed to have been carried out by the ISIS-K terrorist group, which has been attacked in the last 24 hours by US forces in the region.

Military experts say the terrorist attacks will continue soon. According to them, the activity of Islamic State terrorists and the revival of al Qaeda indicates that they could easily acquire the weapons currently owned by the Taliban.

US Marines killed after an attack in Kabul

At least 13 US Marines have been killed in a car bomb attack at Kabul International Airport and many have been seriously injured on August 26, international media reported.

Confirmation of the killing of US Marines also came from the Pentagon through the official Twitter profile of spokesman John F. Kirby. However, it does not specify the number of Americans killed.

Joe Biden in his Twitter statement about 20 hours ago said that “We’re going to do everything that we can to provide safe evacuation for Americans, our Afghan allies, partners, and Afghans who might be targeted because of their association with the United States.”

The Taliban’s spokesperson, in a tweet, says the “Islamic Emirate strongly condemns the bombing of civilians at Kabul airport, which took place in an area where U.S. forces are responsible for security.” 

“The Islamic Emirate [of Afghanistan] is paying close attention to the security and protection of its people, and evil circle will be strictly stopped,” the tweet added.

According to the Afghan Ministry of Health, quoted by the BBC, a strong explosion was heard in the area of ​​the airport in Kabul, in the “Hadji-Bugr” neighborhood, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing Sega. The strike was aimed at the United States against a car bomb of the Islamic State in Khorasan [IS-K], which was supposed to explode at the airport, where hundreds of people are still waiting to flee Afghanistan.

A military official said the crash caused secondary explosions, indicating the presence of a significant amount of explosive substances in the vehicle.

United States would continue to work with the Taliban

Meanwhile, Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to US President Joe Biden, said the United States would continue to work with the Taliban to ensure the safe passage of those wishing to leave Afghanistan after the August 31 deadline. US forces are ready to end their evacuation mission in Kabul before Tuesday’s deadline, but fears remain for those who will remain in the country after the deadline. Sullivan confirmed that the United States will not have an embassy in Afghanistan from September 1, but said it would consider “more strikes and other operations against the Islamic State extremist group in Khorasan.”

The US military has entered the final phase of an evacuation from Kabul. Taliban officials say they are ready to take full control of the airport pending the withdrawal of the last American. Just over 1,000 civilians currently at Hamid Karzai Airport remain to be evacuated, a US security official said on Sunday. The Taliban has a team of technical experts and qualified engineers ready to take over the airport.
