Turkey will buy more air defense systems from Russia

MOSCOW, ($1= 74.12 Russian Rubles) – A contract for the supply of an additional batch of S-400 to Turkey is planned to be signed shortly, said Alexander Mikheev, head of Rosoboronexport, answering a question from Interfax, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

“As for the S-400 complex, consultations continue. I think it is already in the final stage and soon we will start with partners to formalize and sign a contract,”said Mikheev, answering a question about a contract for the supply of an additional batch of air S-400 defense systems to Turkey.

According to Mikheev, a delegation from Rosoboronexport is attending a recent defense exhibition in Turkey. “Our delegation is working, it has brought a good program of investigation,” Mikheev said.

As reported by Interfax, Turkey bought from Russia four divisions of S-400 air defense systems worth $ 2.5 billion … Rostech chief Sergei Chemezov said earlier that Turkey had paid for the S-400.

Russia’s FSMTC chief Dmitry Shugaev said in an interview with Interfax in March 2020 that Russia expects to agree on the delivery of an additional batch of S-400 to Turkey in the foreseeable future. A contract with Turkey for an additional batch of S-400 could be signed in 2021, Chemezov told Interfax in August last year.

Turkey starts production of precision and long-range air defense system

Turkish Defense Industry President Ismail Demir tweeted that his country is starting mass production of the next version of Hissar air defense systems. This is the beginning of a stage in the production of the long-range and precise air defense system Hissar O +, which can operate at high altitudes.

“Mass production agreement of HISAR-O + has been signed with our Presidency and business partnership between ASELSAN-Roketsan. The deliveries under the contract are planned to be realized by 2024 ”, the presidency said on Twitter.

Turkey already has an air defense system of this brand – Hissar A +, which, according to Demir, has been delivered throughout the country to combat units responsible for protecting Turkish airspace and the territorial integrity of the country.

Hissar is a Turkish air defense system that can operate as a shield and turret, protecting the country’s interior, ports, military bases, airports, and other military facilities from air attacks. Hissar A + protects at low and medium altitudes, while Hissar O + at higher altitudes and ranges. Both systems are based on an open software infrastructure, which allows Turkish engineers to make upgrades and upgrades in the future. Hissar A + and Hissar O + are compatible with all similar and supporting NATO systems.

BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that last year during the fighting in Libya, the Turkish side had decided to deploy its Hissar A + anti-aircraft systems in Libya, thus protecting Turkish military bases, equipment, and soldiers there. It was later unclear whether Ankara had fulfilled that intention, but satellite images showed the deployment of another Turkish air defense system, Korkut.
