Russia launched 4th generation nuclear Krasnoyarsk submarine

MOSCOW, BM, ($1= 73.15 Russian Rubles) – On July 30, the Russian Navy officially launched the newest fourth-generation nuclear submarine Krasnoyarsk, from the Yasen-M project, BulgarianMilitary.com has learned, citing an official press release from the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Defense. Factory and state tests will take place in the coming months, the press release said.

The Krasnoyarsk submarine is nuclear-powered and is the work of the St. Petersburg design bureau Malachite. Yassen-M class submarines are expected to become the backbone of the Russian Federation’s submarine navy. Commander of the Krasnoyarsk submarine will be Captain 2nd Rank Ivan Artyushin.

The official ceremony was attended by dozens of officers, representatives of the military directorate of the General Command of the Russian Navy, Director General of the United Shipbuilding Corporation AD Alexei Rakhmanov, other managers and engineers.

In his official speech, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, said: “Today, the newest nuclear-powered missile submarine Krasnoyarsk has left the stocks of the Northern Machine-Building Enterprise (SEVMASH). Let me emphasize that this event took place in the year when we celebrate the 325th anniversary of the creation of the Russian regular fleet. Thanks to the advanced design solutions of one of the leading design bureaus “Malakhit”, the high quality of work of the shipbuilders “SEVMASH”, the Russian Oceanic Navy will be provided with the most modern and reliable nuclear submarines of the Yasen-M project for the long term. I am confident that the pace of construction of nuclear submarines of this project, taken by the SEVMASH enterprise, will allow them to be transferred to the Navy in the planned time frame with invariably high quality.”

The Russian project for 4th generation submarines 885 or known to the general public, the Yasen-M class, began its existence almost 7 years ago. According to the project, Russia should acquire a total of eight 4th generation nuclear submarines. Currently, the leading Yassen-M class submarine is Kazan.

BulgarianMilitary.com reminds you that in addition to the Yassen-M class, Russia is intensively developing submarines of the Oscar 2 class [NATO – ed.] or Belgorod class has known among the Russian navy. The first such submarine was launched nearly two years ago, and it will be one of the first to have a primary purpose – to carry and launch the Poseidon nuclear torpedo, often dubbed “doomsday” by the Western media.

Another submarine that had to carry at least six Poseidon nuclear torpedoes was the Khabarovsk submarine and its launch was scheduled for last year but was postponed. This submarine is of the Borei class and is expecting to be launched in the sea next year or in 2023.

Russia is even building a special base of docks for Belgorod-class submarines and other classes that will carry Poseidon’s nuclear torpedoes. The base is expected to be ready by the end of 2022.
