Artificial intelligence trains Chinese fighter pilots

BEIJING, BM, ($1= 6.40 yuan) – The Chinese state media Global Times published a material in which it reveals that the pilots of the People’s Liberation Army are pretending to use simulators with artificial intelligence. According to Liu Xuanzun, the process of training with artificial intelligence is two-way – the pilot learns to improve his skills, while artificial intelligence learns from the pilot’s actions.

There is already evidence that artificial intelligence developed in China is taking a serious advantage over pilots. In a recent “battle” between Chinese pilot Fang Guoyu, artificial intelligence won for the second time, according to the publication. China says the future of their fifth-generation J-20 fighter and next-generation fighters is based on the use of artificial intelligence.

Information in the Global Times reveals that Chinese military research technology laboratories have developed artificial intelligence from scratch. Initially, the pilots had their advantage and achieved easy victories over the simulator. Subsequently, artificial intelligence has learned from them how to react, interact and build strategy, and currently, there is no Chinese pilot to win a duel with the simulator.

According to Liu Xuanzun, this technology will provide many opportunities for future Chinese fighters. Artificial intelligence will assess a situation and provide the pilot with the best solution for conducting air combat. Currently, the use of an artificial intelligence simulator also benefits the Chinese People’s Liberation Army – reducing the cost of conducting risky training flights, saving equipment and pilots’ lives.

The use of artificial intelligence in military aeronautical engineering was first discussed in China only last year, when Yang Wei, chief designer of the Chinese J-20 fighter, presented a report on the subject.

According to unconfirmed information, the latest attack drone of the Russian Air Force S-70 has artificial intelligence and during the battle communicates with the computer of the Russian stealth fighter Su-57.

Britain, France, and Germany, in their latest reports on the state of defense capabilities, also commented that they were working on developing artificial intelligence for their defense needs.

The issue of the use of artificial intelligence in the military industry is gaining more and more followers, but at the same time, it is facing greater resistance and a desire to fend off the capabilities of modern weapons.

It has recently become clear that there is already the first documented case of a drone attacking a soldier without a direct order from the drone commander. The case is described in a UN report and occurred in 2020 during fighting between the Libyan National Army and Tripoli’s pro-government forces. According to the investigation, the drone was Turkish-made and was in a state of “high autonomous regime”. It has been suggested that the “attack” in question may be due to an error in the facial recognition software.
