Turkey is working to improve the accuracy of its artillery
ANKARA, (BM) – Information from military blogs and websites says the Turkish company Roketsan is currently developing a howitzer and mortar kit that will need to improve the efficiency and precision of Turkish artillery in the future.

This kit is the Range Correction Kit (MDK), which according to some sources, will significantly change the efficiency and accuracy of Turkish artillery, especially systems currently in use in Iraq and Syria.
MDK must service 155 mm Turkish Storm howitzers. According to military sources from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, this kit has been successfully integrated into the ammunition used by Turkish artillerymen. MDK is a type of fuse type “Mickey Mouse ears” and adapts the shell’s trajectory, which allows the target to be reached and struck with high precision. In this way, according to experts, the shell is scattered in a radius of fewer than 50 meters, which reduces costs because the striking power of the projectile is sufficient, and the launch of an additional shell is not necessary.
Experts say, but there is still unconfirmed information that the new correction kit is resistant to electronic jamming and has four modes of operation. The Turks will integrate this kit into the Storm howitzers, and thus the Turkish system will be able to launch guided projectiles.
The Turkish government has already signed a contract with Roketsan for the serial production of the Range Correction Kit (MDK).
New engine for Altay tank
After the failed 2020 for the Turkish Altay project (the main battle tank of the Turkish army), the beginning of 2021 is promising. Turkey is in talks with South Koreans to supply engines to power the tank. This delivery will happen soon, Ismail Demir, chairman of the defense industry’s chairmanship (SSB), told reporters on March 3rd.
According to Demir, despite the good news from South Korea, Turkey continues to develop its engine. The worst that can happen is for the future Turkish engine to be powered by a unit from abroad, Demir added. He added that the future Turkish engine would serve as a basis for driving other armored Turkish vehicles.
Turkish Defense Ministry sources say the alleged South Korean engine is a Doosan Infracore DV27K. This engine is a 4-cycle, 12-cylinder engine with 1500 hp. According to the characteristics of the South Korean manufacturer, the engine is water-cooled.
Batu is the future
Batu is the name of the Turkish engine being developed, which will continue this year and power future Turkish Altay tanks. The Altay project is an initiative of the Turkish government, and the main contractor is Otokar. Turkey and Otokar signed an agreement to develop the tank in 2007. The value of the contract was then about $ 500 million and included four prototypes.
Batu is expected to be more potent than the South Korean engine – 1600 hp. The machine will be diesel with an autonomous gearbox. However, the Turks do not yet have their technology for its development, so they do it together with the Italian manufacturer Fiat / Iveco. The manufacturer of the engine is the Turkish company BMS.
