Unknown drone or fighter hit an Iranian military base by air
MOSCOW, (BM) – Russian sources report an airstrike on one of Iran’s largest air bases in the country. According to reports, an unknown drone or fighter jet carried out the attack. A video was circulated in the Russian media that was allegedly filmed shortly after the attack.
Russia’s Izvestia reports that the attacked Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) airbase is near Tehran. Other sources say that this is the same military base where Iran introduced a new attack drone with the symbolic name Gaza just four days ago. Israeli media noted the new Iranian drone and stressed that Iran had used an “unnamed location” for its presentation.
According to sources, the air attack caused a series of explosions at the airbase. Both weapons systems and ammunition depots are believed to have been hit. A few days ago, Iran announced that a new air defense system would take over air protection at key Iranian sites, including military bases. It is not clear whether the new air defense system has been activated, but it is clear that Iran has not been able to control the airspace over the base.
Sources suggest that Israel may have attacked the Iranian airbase with US intelligence support. There is currently no official confirmation of the information disseminated.
Iran is silent, but the reason may be different
BulgarianMilitary.com cannot confirm the information from the Russian media at the moment. There is no information about what is happening in the Iranian press either. However, the reason may be different.
The possibility of explosions being heard at or around the Iranian base may result from a military incident. Just a few hours ago, Iran began a large-scale air exercise. All news agencies in Iran report it, which expects to last several days.
An incident involving an Iranian fighter jet or other weapons technology that could have caused explosions at an Iranian military base is entirely possible. In that case, Tehran will not be quick to announce what is happening, especially against the background of the Islamic Republic’s widely advertised military capabilities among the population.
A completely different scenario is possible. An accident involving workers or an airstrike hit the Sepahan Nargostar munitions factory in Iran’s Isfahan province.
It is known that a military base of IRGC is locating near it. There was an explosion in this factory 36 hours ago, injuring nine people. The information was confirmed by the Iranian media MEHR, but without publishing the cause of the blast.
Does Iran have a problem with the protection of its airspace?
Two days ago, we announced that the US Air Force’s Lockheed E-3P Orion reconnaissance aircraft had entered the airspace of the Islamic Republic. Unusually, Iran either did not notice the plane or did not want to attack it. Even stranger was the Lockheed E-3P Orion’s reconnaissance flight for at least an hour in Iranian airspace.
Some experts have suggested that Iran has allowed a US reconnaissance plane to enter the airspace to test a system to suppress the plane’s radio signal. Another version was that the Americans did precisely the same thing but suppressed the radio signal of the radar systems of the Iranian air defense.
The second version may be more likely if we analyze today’s information about the attacked Iranian airbase. All this calls into question Iran’s defense capabilities and the country’s ability to control the skies over the Islamic Republic.
Any Israeli involvement in the strike at the airbase is also not to be underestimated, as the two countries (Israel and the United States) are currently working together in the region. If Washington has guaranteed “darkness” in Iran, Israel has a practice of sending unmarked aircraft.
Israeli-Iranian proxy war / cold war
Communication between Israel and Iran is mostly threatening and hostile. Such has been the relationship between the two countries for a very long time. This situation is known as the proxy conflict, the proxy war, or the Cold War between the two countries.
The conflict “appeared” on the world map after the Iranian revolution in 1979. In all the years to this day, Iran aims to destroy Israel as a state. Tehran supports groups and organizations that are hostile to the Jewish state and people. On the other hand, Israel is worried about Iran’sIran’s nuclear program. The proximity of the two countries worries Tel Aviv that Iranians could use them against Israel if Iran has nuclear weapons. Israel also finds its allies in the face of the United States and Saudi Arabia, which are apparent opponents of Iran.
Thus, this conflict gradually turned into an Israeli-Iranian war. The competition has been going on since the start of the Syrian civil war. According to Iran, Israel rules by an illegitimate “Zionist regime,” a Tehran problem. Iran’sIran’s other point of reference is that the United States is hostile to Muslims because it supports Israel.
