US: We can strike Russia without new nuclear weapons
PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – The pandemic situation in 2020 and 2021 showed a different way of thinking. It’s not just about the United States, Russia, Canada, and any other country in the world. It’s about everyone.
In the United States, the question is increasingly being asked: where will the new Biden administration find the money for the pandemic, aging infrastructure, and climate change? It’s trillions of dollars, and people living in America have a right to know the answer. They are taxpayers.
Defense One proposes in its publication the following solution: not to invest nearly $ 270 billion in the development of new nuclear weapons because they do not need them. The United States currently has nuclear warheads. The United States is now the world’s most significant nuclear power, followed by Russia and China.
According to reports in the United States, the White House is ready to give the Pentagon $ 264 billion for new nuclear missiles, known as intercontinental ballistic missiles. If that happens, US ballistic forces in Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wyoming will be armed with new nuclear missiles. Is it necessary, ask the authors of the article William J. Perry and Tom Z. Collina? There is profound logic in their question.
First, the United States does not need localized nuclear missiles (the silos we mentioned above) because they become an easy target for the enemy.
Second, the chance of launching an intercontinental ballistic missile due to human error, involuntary “push” of the button, and weak nerves is very high. Just the day before, on May 6, it was a computer problem that failed the launch of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile.
Third, intercontinental ballistic missiles are difficult to sell. These are not ships, submarines, planes – this is an entirely different technology that requires high costs, maintenance, and annual testing.
Fourth, the United States has hundreds of missiles with nuclear warheads in its submarines. It’s much harder to find a sub to destroy than a missile silo. For God’s sake, we know where the US silos are.
The presence of hundreds of nuclear missiles in Pentagon submarines gives the United States a better advantage over Russia. With these missiles, the authors of the proposal believe that the United States can hit Russia’s 50 largest cities at any time.
Of course, there is something essential to mention – there is a good reason why the US should never use these nuclear missiles (new and old).
The authors of the article, William J. Perry and Tom Z. Collina continue their reflections on what would happen in a nuclear war between the United States and Russia. There is no need to retell the different scenarios, but they are more or less well described in this article if you want to read them.
The question then remains why. Why would the US invest $ 270 billion in something unlikely to be used, is an easy target, and is plentiful right now?
