Poland will repair several old air defense systems
WARSAW, (BM) – The 12 Military Economic Department in Torun awarded an order for repairs and maintenance services related to the air defense systems used in Poland, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing Defence24.
- Washington offers Abrams tank in FMS mode to Polish army
- Poland is looking for a supplier of materials for its tanks
- Poland buys spare parts and materials for its Leopard tanks
These are the 9K33 Osa and 2K12 Kub systems, but also the S-200C Wega. The works, which Poland will carry out in the years 2021-2023, also cover selected additional components. The amount of the transaction has not been disclosed. The negotiated procedure was used to determine the contractor without the publication of a contract notice. The 12 Military Economic Department in Torun received one submitted offer for these services. The decision was published on March 11.
These systems belong to the short-range air defense category. The exception is the S-200C Wega, which are classified as mid-range systems. Except for the 9K33 Osa, all of them purchased in the 1980s, if it is decided to modernize them far, qualify for the fastest possible replacement due to their age and unsatisfactory technical parameters.
However, the contracted work is necessary because the first modern air defense systems – two Patriot system batteries – will appear only 2022. However, even they will be few and will replace only the currently owned equipment to a small extent. It will only be withdrawn after partial implementation of the Narew program and the second phase of the Wisła program. The wasps of Kuby and Wegi will therefore be exploited for at least a few more years.
