Kazakhstan has armed itself with a Russian Buk-M2E missile system
NUR-SULTAN, (BM) – The Kazakh army has armed itself with the Russian Buk-2M2E mobile missile systems, BulgarianMilitary.com has learned, according to information from the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan. The ministry even released a video of its new acquisition.
- Russia’s Buk-M2 anti-aircraft system hit cruise missiles
- 80 Buk-M3 air defense missile systems were delivered to the Russian army
- A supersonic interceptor aircraft MiG-31 crashed in Kazakhstan
We remind you that this delivery was precise in 2018, because then in the middle of the year, Kazakhstan and Russia signed a contract for the sale of the same systems. From the spread information, it is clear that Russia has produced the ordered missile systems and delivered them to Kazakhstan.
Buk-M2E is the export version of the Russian missile system. Kazakhstan is the first country in the world to receive precisely this type of export version of the system. In NATO structures, this system is known as SA-17 Grizzly and has a medium range.
What is the Russian Buk-M2 missile system?
Almaz-Antey is the manufacturer of the missile system. As mentioned above, this is a medium-range system. Targets that the system can attack are various aircraft – from aircraft to missiles. Buk-2M strikes these targets depending on their flight altitude. Interestingly, the range and difference in size are quite extensive – from 10 to 24,000 meters. The capacity for interception and launch of the surface-to-air missile is 50 km, regardless of the metrological conditions.
According to military experts, Buk-2M can engage in intercepting and destroying a total of 24 targets at any time during its operation and flying in different directions.
Buk-2M is equipping with radar and a package of four missiles. These four missiles are in a state of waiting and ready to be fired instantly. The radar is a phase grid, with a range of localization of a target within a radius of 85 km. However, this radar can detect both distant and near targets, for example – an object flying at a distance of 10-20 km.
840 hp gives power to the system through a diesel engine. The maximum speed is 65 km / h. on a flat road and 45 km / h—on-road and terrain in rough terrain or off-road. With one charge of the diesel tank, Buk-2M can reach 500 km.
