Bulgaria with interest in buying Turkish Bayraktar TB2 UAVs

ANKARA, (BM) – The Turkish publication Haber 7 published an interesting article claiming that the Bulgarian government is interested in purchasing at least six Bayraktar TB2 attacking drones. According to the magazine, Sofia had this interest in 2020, but the coronavirus and the crisis with Kovid-19 failed the negotiations.

The publication claims that this year negotiations will hold between Bulgaria and Turkey. However, there is no mention of the period in which they may occur.

Haber 7 makes a worthy and extensive analysis of Turkish drones in the past 2020 and their performance in Syria, Libya, and Nagorno-Karabakh. If Sofia decides to buy Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones, Bulgaria will become the first EU member state to take the step.

Haber 7 also writes in its article that after the successful presentation of Bayraktar TB2 on the battlefields last year and Bulgaria, the countries of Great Britain, Serbia, and Kazakhstan are also showing interest in the Turkish fighter drone.

Azerbaijan and Ukraine

As we announced last June, Turkey has found another buyer for its shock drones. Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to decide to acquire the Turkish drone. We remind you that the Azerbaijani Parliament hastily approved a bill on Turkey’s financial assistance to purchase weapons systems.

Another country that dared to make such a purchase is Ukraine. Kyiv was impressed by the capabilities of the Turkish drone and quickly placed an order. Moreover, Turkey and Ukraine’s partnership expects to deepen as Kyiv and Ankara agree on joint production.

Moreover, many military analysts believe that Ukraine will create the next battlefield for the Turkish Bayraktari to regain Donbas. We remind you that Bayraktar TB2 was more effective against the Russian mobile anti-aircraft missile systems Paintsir-S1 in Syria and Libya.

You should know

Bayraktar TB2 is a strike UAV of the middle class, designed and manufactured by the Turkish Company Baykar. Development of the drone began in 2007, and two years later, it made its first flight. In 2014, the developers showed the Turkish army’s final version, and in March 2016, the Turkish military officially accepted the Bayraktar TB2.

Bayraktar TB2 can rise to an altitude of over 7300 m and remain in the air for up to 24 hours. The device can move away from the control point at a distance of 150 km and operate in two modes (remote control or automatic mode, including independent takeoff and landing). The drone’s maximum speed is 250 km / h; the cruising rate is 130 km / h.

The length of the drone is 6.5 m, the wingspan is 12 m. The maximum takeoff weight of the drone is 650 kg, while the payload is 55 kg. The device has multiple cameras and surveillance systems, which allows it to be used for intelligence purposes. Also, the Bayraktar TB2 is capable of carrying adjustable laser-guided bombs and missiles.
