Iron Dome over some US military bases around the world

TEL AVIV, (BM) – Israel’s Iron Dome anti-aircraft missile system may guard some US military bases in the Middle East, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, citing information from the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

Yaniv Kubovich, the author of the article in Haaretz, writes that Israeli politicians made this decision in a closed-door meeting. According to a source in the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Israel will deploy its Iron Dome systems in bases in the Middle East and bases in Eastern Europe and the Far East.

It is unclear whether the meeting did hold after US approval or whether the United States will decide whether to take advantage of the Iron Dome at its military bases. I.e., it is likely that the meeting was to give the “green light if the United States wishes.” The countries in which the air defense systems will be located remain unclear.

Journalists and military experts in Israel say Saudi Arabia may be one of those countries. We remind you that in 2019 a swarm of Iranian drones attacked and caused severe damage to Aramco’s oil facilities.

New systems, new bases

As we wrote above, the Iron Dome air defense system could end up at US military bases in Saudi Arabia. We remind you that Israel delivered a second Iron Dome system to the United States at the end of last year.

Coincidence or not, but yesterday, January 25, we published the news that the United States is looking for new bases in Saudi Arabia. Riyadh has already given the green light for this.

The reason for such a decision is not the current Biden administration. The trial began about a year ago under then-US President Donald Trump.

New air defense systems could accompany a recent relocation of the US military. It would not be a surprise if the Israeli meeting on the Iron Dome deployment also targeted Saudi Arabia’s territory. In this way, the Arabs will get the Iron Dome without having to buy it. In this way, Riyadh would eliminate pressure from Moscow, Saudi Arabia, to invest in Russian S-400 air defense systems.
