Brigadier General Saeed Shabanyan told reporters that Tehran has concrete evidence of Israeli secret service involvement in the assassination and assassination of a physicist. He said all participants had been identified, and Tehran would take steps to “arrest” them.
“The Zionist entity’s intelligence is directly involved in the assassinations of several Iranian scientists,” said Iranian Defense Minister Amir Khatami.
How was nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh killed?
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh died on November 27, 2020. Hours after his assassination, Iranian authorities leaked conflicting information about how the incident happened. According to the officially released version from Iran, a jeep-pickup truck with a machine gun mounted on the roof and a face recognition system carried out the assassination. The pickup was controlled and navigated remotely.
Iran claims that Israel used an artificial intelligence system to recognize faces. In this way, they justify that Fakhrizadeh’s wife, who was 25 cm away from him, was not hit by bullets. According to Iranian authorities, the pickup exploded after the accident.
However, an Iranian report by the Ministry of Defense claims that on November 27, the bodyguards of the physicists fought with several people. According to witnesses quoted in the report, “bodyguards killed four terrorists.” It is not clear from the report whether the incident described the same incident or two different incidents.
On the day of the assassination attempt on the Iranian physicist, Israeli public radio warned its citizens traveling the world to be careful. According to unconfirmed reports, former Israeli nuclear scientists have transferred to a secret site in the Negev desert.
Why did Mohsen Fahrizade become the target of an assassination attempt?
According to information from various intelligence services, including Israel, Mohsen Fahrizade was the head of the Iranian project “Amad.” This project should create an Iranian nuclear bomb according to intelligence. According to official information from Iran, the project is frozen. But according to Israeli intelligence, this project was never frozen, and Mohsen Fahrizade worked secretly on it.
Mohsen Fahrizade is considered one of the engines of Iran’s nuclear program. According to official documents, the scientist led the SPND, or Organization for Defense Innovation and Research.
According to political scientists and military experts, the assassination of Mohsen Fahrizade has an entirely different purpose. It is clear to the world that killing a physicist would not stop a country’s nuclear program. Experts suggest that the assassination aims to prevent US desire in President-elect Joe Biden’s face to rejoin the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
