Russia’s ‘silver bullet’ Prometheus could shoot down the American F-35 stealth

PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – We are entering a stage where the military industry, political analysts and strategists, high-ranking military leaders are following with interest what is happening in Russia, especially at the end of the year. The Russian Federation has repeatedly claimed that the first mass-produced S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft missile system will enter service with the Russian army.

Similar allegations have been made by Russia’s top officials, including Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, who recently told Russia’s Interfax media that everything was going according to plan and that Russia would have an S-500 by the end of 2020. The same was confirmed by the Deputy Commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Lieutenant General Yuri Grekhov, and the Executive Director of Rostech, Sergei Chemezov. “Russian Prometheus enters serial production” they all said.

Russia is expected to put S-500 Prometheus into operation in the next 7 to 8 years, and by the end of 2027 the Russian sky will be protected by S-350, S-400 and S-500. In the presence of the first two systems, many military analysts are skeptical that Moscow will not need to produce the full volume of S-500 air defense systems, which should replace the existing S-400, because the Russian Triumph [S-400 – ed.] is good enough to handle any air attack at this point.

We recently wrote that the Russian S-500 air defense system has passed combat tests in Syria, and this information was confirmed by sources from the country’s military-industrial complex, but still officially ambiguously denied by the Russian government itself. At the same time, the Kremlin simply said succinctly about the circulated information that “there is no need for additional testing.”

But is the Russian “silver bullet” [Russian media call the S-500 air defense system – ed.] capable of shooting down the leading product of the American defense industry – the F-35 stealth fighter? We hope we never understand, because if such a situation arises, then obviously the world will face a nobrable evil.

We know a lot about the American fighter, but very little about the Russian S-500 air defense system. The reason is that the Russian authorities refuse to officially disseminate any information, but on the other hand, the Russian military industry itself has managed to “provide” quite unexpected information to the general public in the last 24 months.

We know that the S-500 has a significantly fast response time of between 3 and 4 seconds for a missile launch, and the range of the missile is 600 km. What does this tell us? If the S-400 can shoot down an American F-35 fighter [according to various information from military analysts and engineers – ed.], Then the S-500 has 200 km. greater range of damage than its predecessor, and 6 seconds faster response time than it.

The S-500 works fast. This is a fact. But does it intercept and strike? The short answer is yes, because the S-500 is equipped with the latest in anti-aircraft missile engineering in the world – the 77-N6 and 77N6-N1 missiles. These two missiles can intercept hypersonic missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles, or moving air objects at a speed of 5 Mach. For reference only – the American F-35 fighter can reach a maximum speed of 1.6 Mach. Even the Russian government has officially issued a statement that the S-500 could hit and shoot down a satellite in low orbit, and this message came in response to the Pentagon, which said that Russia had tested an anti-satellite missile.

Of course, these are extreme heights. The question is quite different, whether Russia will at all agree to mass-produce a system, loading it with characteristics for extreme heights.

The S-500 is a source of pride for the Russian military. Russian media have begun calling the air defense system the “silver bullet,” and Almaz-Antey’s chief engineer, Pavel Sozinov, has repeatedly said that “the S-500 is a blow to American prestige” and that “this system neutralizes every American offensive weapons, surpassing American anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems. “

One issue remains to be clarified in the near future. How many systems will Russia produce? Because the prospects are very high, especially after Moscow and Ankara agreed to jointly produce the S-500 air defense system. For now, Turkey will officially participate, unofficially – it all depends on the country’s financial capabilities, especially at a time when the Turkish lira is rapidly losing value and puts the economy at huge risk of bankruptcy.
