TEL AVIV, (BM) – The German shipyard ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems delivered to the Israeli Navy the first produced corvette of the next generation class-Saar 6 – Magen, learned This corvette is part of a deal between the Israeli government and the German manufacturer to produce a total of 4 pieces of the same type and model.

Israel is expected to pay for the production and delivery of the next-generation four corvettes at approximately 430 million euros, a figure that is exactly in line with the figures announced in the Israeli media. Two years ago, the first steel was cut, which marked the beginning of the construction of the new Israeli corvette.

According to sources in the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Magen will join the Israeli navy next month and will be anchored in the port of Haifa. Israeli media reported that the other three corvettes should be delivered in the next 12 months – July, September and October 2021.

What necessitated the fact that Israel ordered these four corvettes? It all started back in 2000, when natural gas was discovered in Israel’s extremely economic waters. It should be noted that approximately 70% of the population of this country uses natural gas for their needs and for their daily lives. For this reason, the Israeli government has decided that the protection of gas fields is of paramount importance to the country, and Tel Aviv has commissioned the production of military vessels.

The new ship (the other three are also expected to have the same characteristics – ed.) Is the last word in modern and technological maritime shipbuilding. The Corvette has stealth technology and the latest possible surveillance and detection systems. The length of the ship is 90 meters, the width is 13 meters and the displacement is 1900 tons. The ship will have a 70-member crew of sailors. Magen will develop a speed of approximately 24 knots.

It is quite logical that all armaments be produced in Israel, given that the country is a leader in the development of modern weapons systems in the world and one of the three largest traders in military systems. Military sources from Tel Aviv told that the corvette will have anti-ship missiles Gabriel-5, a controllable weapon module Rafael Typhoon, an air defense system S-Dome, which is a naval version of the world-famous air defense system Iron Dome. , as well as the Barak-8 air defense system, which will have the task of keeping an eye on targets at fairly long distances.

Of course, the ship will be equipped with a variety of missiles, torpedoes and mines, as well as a modern version of the system for conducting and countering electronic warfare. It should be noted that according to sources in Tel Aviv, some of the ship’s systems will be directly connected to Israeli security satellite systems.

Military experts say the new corvettes, including this one, will be equipped with the latest in radar technology. It is a radar system capable of detecting targets at distances up to 200 km. which will operate in an autonomous mode of operation so as to receive updated information from the Israeli defense structural system as a whole.

Most likely, a SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter will be landed on board Magen and brought into full combat readiness. Sources from the Ministry of Defense of Israel claim that this and the next corvettes will have greater autonomy than the existing ones in the country.
