Video of the newest drone for the US military was posted on social media

WASHINGTON, (BM) – The main attribute of modern air reconnaissance is unmanned aerial vehicles, on which either universal or special sets of equipment are installed. Usually they are thermal imagers, special cameras and radar stations.

However, now drones without special permission cannot plow the air on a par with conventional aircraft, which is why they are used much less often. Therefore, now in the United States they are developing special drones with innovative means and technologies to improve the quality of reconnaissance. Simply put, the Americans are trying to expand the list of tasks by re-equipping UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles).

One of the overseas companies at the end of last year announced the completion of tests of the promising, and most importantly, multifunctional device Firebird. At the moment, its appearance has been patented, plus the capabilities of both manned control are recorded, and not. This will save the cost of use: where drones are prohibited, it will act as an airplane. Such a change of function will be possible right in the air for several hours.

U.S. defense contractor Northrop Grumman put out a short video on Facebook showing optionally-piloted Firebird multi-mission aircraft execute Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) demos from the company’s North Dakota facility, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

The engineers say that the paradigm shift from aircraft to drone will require removing the fairing, seats and dashboard and replacing them with the appropriate parts. In drone mode, Firebird will be able to stay in the air for up to two days.

Firebird can transmit the highest quality video recordings, images and other information while monitoring a wide area. Thus, it can be understood that it will be equipped with various cameras of various functionalities: for example, infrared or multispectral.

If we compare this device with other drones (without the possibility of changing functions), then its pilots can bring it to full readiness for hostilities even before the military transfers it to unmanned operations.

It has a six-cylinder engine with a capacity of three hundred and sixty horsepower: its features and functionality significantly reduce operating costs. The aircraft uses fuel efficiently, which significantly improves the results of its performance.

Due to the simplicity of its design, the UAV can fly both day and night, regardless of weather conditions. The sturdy chassis allows the Firebird to be launched from airfields, both conventional and field, plus normal highways.

It is possible to install air-to-ground missiles on the wings, plus additional equipment for reconnaissance. By and large, the device can be considered a reconnaissance and strike.
