The head of the military department, examining the exposition of the Russian arms concern at the military-technical forum “Army” -2020 in the Patriot park near Moscow, noted the AM-17 and urged the Kalashnikov to make a lighter and more compact modification of the machine.
The new AM-17 will be able to fit into a pilot’s knapsack and will be included in the equipment of pilots of the Su-35 generation 4 super-maneuverable multipurpose fighter with thrust vector control and the Su-57 fifth generation multifunctional fighter.
At the same time, as noted by the chief of the general staff of the Russian armed forces, Valery Gerasimov, before the AM-17 is put into service, it will face state tests. In the future, the AM-17 version can replace the 9-mm Stechkin automatic pistol currently used by military pilots.

For comparison, the usual AK-74 is slightly heavier per kilogram – 3.6 kg, as well as two tens of centimeters longer – 940 mm without a bayonet. The capacity of the AM-17 magazine is 30 rounds of 5.45×39 mm.It is equipped with windows for visual control of the amount of ammunition The design of the assault rifle also includes a Picatinny rail, which is used for the unified installation of various sights. The small-sized assault rifle AM-17 was developed by the Kalashnikov concern on the basis of an experimental MA submachine gun.

Kalashnikov has created a small-sized Malysh assault rifle for self-defense
Preliminary tests of the Malysh small-sized self-defense assault rifles have been completed, preparations are underway for state-run tests, as we reported on August 20 citing Dmitry Tarasov, general director of the Kalashnikov concern.
“At present, the stage of preliminary tests has been completed and the preparation and manufacture of prototypes for state tests is underway,” Tarasov said then.
According to him, state tests of the Lebedev PLC compact pistol, positioned as a replacement for the PM, have ended.
“Several days ago, state tests of a compact version of this weapon were successfully completed. The pistol was recommended by the customer for adoption by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. In addition, this sample aroused interest among other law enforcement agencies, whose representatives took part in state tests. Pilot operation of the PLC has begun in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The concern has begun mastering its serial production,” Tarasov said.
He expressed hope that next year the concern will receive a state contract for the manufacture of the first serial batch of PLC pistols.
“Thanks to the state order, we plan to load the production capacities of the pistol production of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant for many years to come,” Tarasov specified.

Russian Kalashnikov manufacturer released a new AK-19 assault rifle
Russian Kalashnikov manufacturer continue to delight military and civilian shooters with new types of weapons, we reported on August 18. This time the novelty was presented by the Kalashnikov concern, which very soon everyone will be able to see personally.
Just the other day, a new Kalashnikov AK-19 assault rifle was presented, which is the next step after the sensational Russian AK-12 and AK-15 assault rifles.
Recall that the assault rifles were developed for Russian calibers 5.45 and 7.62, and began to be supplied to the army and Russian special forces in order to replace the main AK-74M assault rifle.
The AK-19 assault rifle has a new adjustable side-folding stock. Unlike the AK-12 and AK-15, it is made not on the basis of the Western “Milspec” pipe as on the American M-4 / M-16 rifles, but according to the original format.

A similar stock is used in the “Magpul Zhukov” tuning kit and in the FN “SCAR” carbines. Also, you can notice changes in the rear sight. It has become more convenient, takes up less space on the bar. Moreover, a new slotted flame arrester was developed for the AK-19.
It is very similar in format to the standard “Birdcage” expansion joints used on the US Army’s M-4 rifles.
However, it has a significant difference: as in previous models of machines, it is equipped with a quick-release mount for installing silencers.
The main difference was the used caliber of the AK-19 assault rifle – this is the famous American .223 Rem or 5.56×45. The choice of caliber is not surprising, remember at least the “Hundredth” and “Two hundredth” series of Kalashnikov assault rifles, which also have AKs chambered for the western cartridge.
What is it for? First, it will expand the volume of exports. Today, all over the world, two calibers are most often used: NATO 5.56 and Soviet 7.62.
Moreover, a number of weapons experts believe that the 5.56×45 cartridge has higher ballistic characteristics. It is believed that due to the shape of the cartridge, it is more reliable when fed from the magazine, and causes less malfunction.
To recall at least the history of the appearance of Russian 5.45 cartridge, which was developed as a reaction to the western 5.56, but due to political views, could not be accepted by the Soviet leadership.
