Greece-Turkey: Kremlin’s ‘silence’ is deafening, Washington just turns a blind eye

The Kremlin has reportedly said it is in no hurry to take an official position on the issue, as it is an intra-Native affair and no Russian intervention has been requested from either country.

Of course, this crisis benefits Russia. There is also “silence” from NATO-US, which so far have not taken a stand against the Turkish provocations.

At the same time, despite Kremlin, the Russian media reports – “Greece hits a Turkish warship” and “Greek frigate, during a new challenge in the Aegean, hit a Turkish warship. The Turks once again violated the sovereign rights of Greece.”

Pentapostagma nots that At the moment when Turkey is provoking, the US once again turns a blind eye and indirectly sided with Erdogan.

“At the moment, only France, for its own reasons, of course, supports the Greeks. It would be interesting to see today what the outcome of the Dendia-Pompeo meeting will be and if Washington finally condemns Ankara” Pentapostagma also added.

The ‘bomb’ of Le Figaro

The US Pentagon is expressing concern over the deployment of French troops in the Eastern Mediterranean, calling on its two NATO allies, Paris and Ankara, to find a solution that will de-escalate tensions in the region.

According to a publication of the French “Le Figaro”, the intervention of the Pentagon follows the French support in Greece against the Turkish allegations for natural gas, in which it is emphasized that France is intervening in a “reduced framework”.

After the joint Greek-French naval exercise that took place in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea region, the representative of the US Department of Defense, Jonathan Hoffman, stated on Thursday: “The US military is apparently concerned about what is happening in the Eastern Mediterranean. “France and Turkey are two extremely important NATO allies and we would like to see the escalation of tension.”

“We would like them to continue to work together and find solutions that do not include the need to develop ships or military aircraft,” he added.

It is noteworthy that the American Pentagon puts Greece out of the picture due to the developments in the Mediterranean and the “extremely important NATO allies”.

Amid rising tensions between Turkey and France, mainly over differing interests in Libya, Paris has “temporarily” deployed two Rafale fighter jets and two warships in the Eastern Mediterranean, “to signal its desire to ensure compliance with international law”.

The two Rafale will make a “stopover” for “a few days” in Souda, Crete, said the French Ministry of the Armed Forces.

It is noted that the exercise took place on Thursday, was in the context of the ongoing military cooperation Greece – France, with the participation of media and personnel of the two countries, in the Eastern Mediterranean, including the area which Turkey has blocked with illegal NAVTEX research.
