The United States decided to deploy its troops near Russia’s borders

WASHINGTON, (BM) – Part of the troops of the European Command of the American armed forces will be transferred to the Black Sea area, closer to the Russian borders, learned citing the US Defense Minister Mark Esper statement.

According to him, the purpose of such maneuvers is to strengthen the security of the American allies on the southeastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as to “contain” Russia. In addition, he did not rule out the deployment of additional US units in the Baltic countries and Poland.

Thus, the head of the Pentagon commented on Washington’s plans to withdraw almost 12 thousand of its troops from Germany. Some of the servicemen will be deployed to other NATO countries, in particular to Belgium and Italy. The United States informed its allies of its intentions. The decision to withdraw troops from Germany was approved by the owner of the White House at the end of June.

True, then it was asserted that 9.5 thousand American servicemen would be withdrawn from Germany. One of the reasons for this step was called Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with Germany’s low defense spending.

Recall that the US Department of Defense called on NATO allies to increase their combat readiness in order to be able to resist Russia.

Days earlier, Poland supported a similar decision by the US and welcomed the American troops into the country

A similar opportunity was presented by the Polish president Andrzej Duda a few days earlier, when he made his comment on Gdansk radio.

The president emphasized that in such cases “apart from the fact that we would like to invite us, it is obviously the decision of the American authorities”. “The US Army is welcome in Poland. It is the largest and strongest army in the world” – he added.

“It is a very strong guarantee of security. Especially in difficult times, when we have the smoldering armed conflict in Ukraine all the time, where Russia invaded Ukraine, where Russia occupies Crimea, where Russia de facto also occupies the Lugansk and Donetsk territories today. So it is visible manifestation of Russian imperialism, which began to return. In 2014 there was a great fear that it could go further and that the Baltic States could be attacked, and that perhaps even there would be an attempt to raise our hand on our state. And then these decisions were made to create advanced, strengthened presence on NATO’s eastern flank,” said Duda.

He noted that the presence of American soldiers also increases the chance of American investment in Poland. “Where there is an American army, there also large American business willingly invests its money. Because it is a guarantee of security for them” – he said.

Russia has called on Washington not to limit itself to withdrawing own troops, only.

On June 11, the Russian Foreign Ministry sent a message to the American rulers, urging them to leave Germany to take back their nuclear weapons. This opinion was expressed by the spokesperson of the Ministry Maria Zakharova.

Zakharova recalled that non-strategic US nuclear weapons are located in Germany. And she offered to take him out of Germany in the event that “if Washington is really going to gradually liberate German soil from US units and armed forces.”

In addition, she noted that Washington is conducting exercises to develop techniques for handling such weapons, including involving non-nuclear NATO members. “And this obviously violates the basic provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” Zakharova emphasized.

On June 6 it became clear that the US government did not notify the German authorities of the decision to reduce the number of US military deployed in Germany, which can be considered a provocation, the German newspaper Der Spiegel wrote.

“We were informed that the US government did not inform, as usual, its NATO partner, Germany, about the decision to reduce the number of troops. Given the importance of this decision, one can regard it as provocation,” Der Spiegel noted in the publication.
