The monster BHA AR-500 rifle in powerful 500 S&W caliber
PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – As we wrote earlier, Big Horn Armory, which manufactures powerful rifles with manual reloading by triggering the trigger guard (Model 89, 90), already released an AR platform carbine in the powerful S&W .500 caliber.

The initial choice was .500 Auto Mag, but the finalist was .500 Auto Max. Weapons and ammunition are under development and compatibility tuning.
The initial assembly of the cartridge was with a 25.9 gram HCFN bullet having a velocity of 662 m / s with an energy of 4200 joules. But AR-500 manufacturer released ready-made solutions for hand equipment is already expected.
The popularity of AR platforms is high, so it is not surprising that various manufacturers have developed in this vein. Powerful calibers like “to hell with you, your tame bears and your armored car” began to appear frequently in announcements and among carbine modifications.
According to Big Horn Armory, the .500 Auto Max is a more functional twin of the .500 S&W, which does not have a protruding flange on the base (which will simplify the operation of the automation). The cartridge develops a pressure of 4082.7 atmospheres to achieve 6236.7 joules of energy at the muzzle.
The requirements for casings of this caliber are great, so the well-known company Starline took over them. Important note from BHA:
“There is a difference in the sleeves and the method of determining its effective length, in the 500 Auto Max it starts with its cut, so you need to use a tapered bullet crimp. Do not round off the neck when crimping the sleeve! Trimming to a length of 4.102 cm is also very important. The edges of the sleeve must not overlap or go beyond the bullet crimp belt. “
The AR platform is very popular, so it is logical that experiments are currently being carried out to clearly show how powerful a cartridge it will withstand. Big Horn Armory, the creator of the Model 89 and 90 manual bail-type rifles in 500 Smith & Wesson Magnum and .460 Smith & Wesson Magnum calibers, has announced that the AR500 carbine in .500 Auto Max is the most powerful large bore AR carbine.
The heart of the AR10 / SR25 based rifle is the 7075 hardened aluminum receiver in a more modern variation. The top has been modified to reliably eject the .500 Auto Max sleeves, while the bottom has a two-way slide stop, safety lock, index finger space and Ergo grip. The customizable gas system unit can handle everything from subsonic to elephantine charges.
Black steel barrel, 45.7 cm long with 1:24 twist rifling and muzzle thread, is completely nitrided inside and out. The free-flowing forend has M-LOK mounting slots, a long Picatinny rail on top and mounting points. The shutter group has been modified for reliable and consistent performance under heavy loads.
The adjustable reinforced bumper features a 2.54 cm recoil dampening tip. Most will say that the handling is similar to the .308 Winchester. The set includes a five-round magazine, but there are also 10-seat models.
Based on the .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum, the .500 Auto Max is a version that does not have a protruding welt flange on its base. Factory cartridges are manufactured by Buffalo Bore, equipping them with a 25.9-gram solid-cast bullet with a flat head, which takes off at a speed of 662.9 m / s and carries a crushing energy of 5694.4 Joules.
The sleeves for such a powerful cartridge are produced by Starline, a well-known reloader. The BHA AR-500 Auto Max rifle price is $1,999.
