“Hypersonic (weapon) offers a number of advantages. I think the US does not want nuclear weapons in this area, but conventional hypersonic weapons (non-nuclear weapons – ed.),” Billingsley said at a hearing before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Billingsley noted that hypersonic weapons will equalize the combat capabilities of the United States with China and the Russian Federation, especially in the Pacific region.

“We need to seriously increase the number of tests of various hypersonic systems both in the ground forces, the Navy, and potentially in the Air Force. It is fair to say that we are lagging behind, in particular, the Chinese test program, and the Russians have already deployed two types of nuclear hypersonic weapons on heavy intercontinental ballistic missiles,” he said.

Billingsley added that Russia will soon have other samples that will be deployed on the Sarmat ICBM once it is put into service.

On Tuesday, the committee is considering Billingsley’s candidacy for the post of US Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.

On March 1, 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his message to the Federal Assembly, spoke about the latest types of strategic weapons, including the Kinzhal, Avangard, Burevestnik hypersonic complexes, the Peresvet combat laser, and an underwater drone with a nuclear power plant “Poseidon”.

What do the statements in the USA about the testing of “super duper” missiles mean?

The Pentagon has confirmed the statement of US President Donald Trump about the development of the fastest missile in the world, media reported.

On the air of Sputnik radio, military political scientist Andrei Koshkin expressed an opinion about whether the United States would overtake Russia in the production of hypersonic weapons.

The Pentagon confirmed the words of US President Donald Trump about testing a hypersonic missile, the speed of which is 17 times the speed of sound, CNN reported.

The emergence of “the greatest weapon in history”, the creation of a “super-duper” missile, the American leader announced in May. Then he did not specify what kind of missile weapons were in question.

“In fact, he (Trump – ed.) Was referring to the recent rocket tests that we conducted in March, during which the speed (of the missile – ed.) Exceeded the speed of sound 17 times,” – said a Pentagon spokesman.

At the end of June, Trump ordered the use of the defense production law, which is used in war or emergency situations to urgently implement programs in the field of hypersonic and space technologies.

Sputnik radio broadcasts a military political scientist, head of the department of political science and sociology of the PRUE. Plekhanov Andrei Koshkin expressed the opinion that even such a pace does not allow the United States to overtake Russia in the production of hypersonic weapons.

“Today, the United States is lagging behind Russia in the production of hypersonic weapons, this lag is estimated by experts from five to ten years. For this” super-duper “rocket to stand on duty as our hypersonic missiles stood, a long period must still pass At the same time, one must understand that there is a PR component in the statements from the US Trump now needs victories. Public statements about the results of the project are a very important factor in order to gain votes and become president again. But to say that the United States, having tested the “super-duper” missile, they have already caught up with Russia, and maybe they will be overtaken tomorrow, it will be wrong. Although all the forces of the Pentagon and the military budget are now thrown into ensuring that modern high-tech weapons, which the Russian Federation already has, appears in the United States. “ , said Andrey Koshkin.

US urged Russia to stop developing “flying Chernobyls”

The US calls on Russia to stop developing and deploying the latest types of nuclear-powered missiles, said Marshall Billingsley, the US President’s special envoy for arms control.

“We believe that such a weapon should not exist at all. Why have a nuclear-powered cruise missile at all? This is nothing more than a flying Chernobyl. Just imagine what kind of radioactive release (she) will create during the flight. There is no logic to justify (the existence) of these doomsday systems. I directly told my Russian partners that this is a huge expenditure of funds, and they need to stop these destabilizing developments,” Billingsley said at a hearing in the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

On Tuesday, the committee is considering Billingsley’s candidacy for the post of US Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.
