US war ship caught fire at the American naval base in San Diego [video]

WASHINGTON, (BM) – The fire on the USS Bonhomme Richard universal landing ship at the US naval base in San Diego injured several sailors, the city’s fire department said, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

It is also noted that an explosion occurred on the ship. On Twitter, the fire department indicated that the victims were being helped.

According to local media reports, 11 sailors were injured. The cause of the fire, according to FOX News, has not yet been established.

In shots taken from the air, it is seen that puffs of dark gray smoke burst from the middle of the moored ship. A fire from the water is extinguished by several special boats.

The fire department of the city also reported on Twitter that its employees were ordered to leave the pier, for which reason it is not specified.

USS Bonhomme Richard joined the U.S. Navy in 1998. It belongs to the Wasp class universal landing craft and is equipped with a take-off deck. The ship has a displacement of more than 28 thousand tons, a length of over 250 meters and a width of 43 meters.

It is capable of carrying about 1900 Marines, up to 20 Hurrier vertical take-off planes and up to 46 CH-46 helicopters. The ship is equipped with anti-aircraft missile weapons.

USS Bonn Richard (LHD-6) is a wasp-class landing craft, and the third ship of the United States Navy to have a name.
