Testing passed despite a US warning about the possible imposition of sanctions. Similar weapons tests took place in the fall of 2019. Earlier, the purchase of S-400 by Turkey became a stumbling block in relations with the United States.

Not far from Ankara, the Turkish military began new tests of anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) S-400. They sent them from the Myurt air base against the American F-16 and F-4 fighters, according to Fighter Jets World.

The portal notes that testing of Russian weapons began on July 4 and will last several months – until November 26. According to the publication, the Turkish authorities ignored the US warning about the possible imposition of sanctions in the event of air defense missile tests.

Tests of the S-400 took place in Turkey last fall. Missile systems were then also tested on American aircraft that flew over Ankara at various altitudes, and Russian systems controlled the sky.

In an FAN commentary, military expert Alexei Leonkov said the S-400 had proven that it could fix US stealth fighters.

The agency notes that the fifth-generation American fighter 200 km from the military base “saw” the air defense system. The Turkish military decided to use this opportunity to test Russian systems for real purposes. Leonkov suggested that Turkish air defense calculations tested the radar system of the Russian air defense system.

“When irradiation occurs, the missiles do not start, but the entire program is being worked out: detection, tracking of targets and launch. Moreover, everything is done in electronic form, and automation calculates the hit of a rocket. That is, it’s like for educational purposes, but without rocket launches,” the specialist explained.

He stressed that the Russian side “always said” that air defense systems detect US fighters. “They are seen by both the S-300, S-400, and Buki, as their systems use phased array antennas operating in the range that the stealth fixes. There is a mark of the target, and the radar system notices it, there is a resolution that it sees,” said the expert.

Leonkov added that the only advantage of stealth in this case is their detection at a closer distance. “But even if these comrades flew not 300 km, but 300, they would still be seen. The reaction time of the systems allows us to assume that, while these aircraft will do something, the S-400 missiles will catch up with them. By the way, the Chinese also successfully tested the S-400 missile to the maximum range and launched a maneuvering target,” added the agency’s interlocutor.

Russian deliveries of S-400 air defense systems of Turkey began last summer. The purchase by the Turkish authorities of these complexes provoked a conflict with the American side.

The US said that if Turkey does not abandon Russian systems in favor of the American Patriot, then sanctions will be imposed and the sale of F-35 fighters to the Turkish military will be canceled. Ankara refused to comply with the requirements of Washington.

Russia has completed the first contract for the supply of four S-400 divisions to Turkey in the amount of $ 2.5 billion, RIA Novosti reports. The parties also agreed on a second installment.

At the end of June, American Republican Senator John Thune proposed to buy the Russian S-400 from Turkey at the expense of the budget aimed at national defense for 2021. Moreover, the document does not contain information on whether Ankara has a desire to resell the complexes without the permission of Moscow.

Russian senator Vladimir Dzhabarov, in an interview with the Moscow Talking radio station, suggested that the Americans want to buy the complexes in order to dismantle them “to the cogs” and try to make such weapons. He believes that “it is unlikely that Turkey will do this”, as this may lead to the fact that it will lose the status of a reliable partner.

“I can’t understand how the relations between the USA and Turkey will improve if the USA takes some sort of C-400 complex for itself,” Jabarov added. The politician expressed the opinion that the United States wants to “satisfy its curiosity” and “just steal” Russian military secrets.

“Negotiations are underway, this is a laborious process that requires a certain amount of time. But given the current restrictions in connection with the pandemic, it is not very grateful to predict the terms of concluding this contract,” the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Dmitry Shugaev said then.

Shugaev noted that at the moment the parties are awaiting the final decision of Turkey.

In May Turkey has blocked the access of Russian military to S-400 systems

Earlier May the Russian military was banned from being at military facilities where the ongoing deployment of S-400 air defense / missile defense systems, according the head of the Turkish Defense Industry Directorate Ismail Demir statement.

According to Demir, control over the S-400 completely passes to the Turkish military, and the maintenance of these complexes will be entrusted to Turkish companies.

“The head of the defense industry, Ismail Demir, said that the installation process for the S-400 air defense and missile defense system, which was delayed due to coronavirus, is ongoing <…> Russian employees will not be able to access the S-400 batteries as they wish” Demir said – “The installation process of the S-400 systems continues, and some systems were put into operation. Although the supply agreement includes items such as training, maintenance, and technical support, the Russian personnel will not be able to access the S-400 batteries as they please. This is our red line. Turkish companies and the Turkish Air Force will be the parties that relate to systems and do business” said the Turkish Miliyet news publication.

What exactly is the reason for the Russian military’s blocking access to the S-400s located in Turkey is unknown.

Experts believe that this is due to possible risks that Russia can really gain control of the Turkish S-400s, since this country is a member of NATO.

It is not known exactly when it is planned to complete the deployment of the S-400 in Turkey, however, earlier there was information that the process could drag on until the end of this year, due to the very serious economic problems of Ankara and the intention to get a loan from the United States.
