Russia is challenging US and NATO with unique armaments of the Su-57 fighters
MOSCOW, (BM) – Destruction of targets at a distance of several hundred kilometers, jewelry accuracy of bombing attacks and well-protected equipment – together with the latest bombs and missiles, the fifth-generation Su-57 aircraft complex will receive advanced electronics for their guidance, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing Russian RIA Novosti news agency.

The fifth-generation fighter Su-57 is not just an airplane, but a whole combat complex, which includes the latest aviation weapons. The list of weapons is classified, but it is known that enterprises of the military-industrial complex are developing about fifteen models.
According to experts, the basis of the Su-57 arsenal will be the strike assets already available to the Russian Air Force, but completely redesigned and “digitized”. For example, new anti-ship missiles with a doubled flight range – up to 250 kilometers. It is noteworthy that outwardly the ammunition looks the same as its predecessors.
The changes mainly affected the internal filling – the rocket now has more powerful and compact “brains”, the control system and engine provide a very complex flight path. The electronic equipment hidden in the housing is resistant to external electronic interference, various traps and does not respond to false targets.
“Previously, target designation for air-to-air or air-to-ground missiles was transmitted through analog converters, which took some time,” military expert Alexei Leonkov explains to RIA Novosti.
“At that time, it met the requirements of combined arms and air combat. Now the situation is different. In the area of modern air combat, there are many electronic warfare complexes: both ground and air. Under such conditions, the weapons must be very reliable. The Su-57 was created taking into account these factors, its systems are completely digital – the transfer of a flight mission, target designation, redistribution of targets takes only a fraction of a second.”, the expert also noted.
Like other multi-functional fighters, the Su-57 will be able to carry short-range, medium-range and long-range air-to-air, air-to-surface ammunition, as well as guided and adjustable bombs.
So, it was for the promising “drying” that the “smart” KAB-250 aerial bomb was developed. After dumping from the carrier, its flight path is corrected by the signals of the GLONASS satellite system. Now the ammunition is being tested at the training grounds and even managed to be tested in combat conditions – S-34 bombers dropped KAB-250s at militant facilities in Syria.
The bomb showed high efficiency and, most importantly, accuracy: the deviation from the target is only plus or minus two meters regardless of weather conditions and time of day. The power of the warhead allows the pilot to hit not only equipment and manpower in open space, but also well-fortified enemy targets.
In addition, as previously reported by the Ministry of Defense, the Su-57 fighter will take on board hypersonic weapons. It is expected that the “Fifty-seventh” new aviation complex “Dagger” will be received after 2030.
Accurate to meter
The honored military pilot of Russia Vladimir Popov is sure: the nomenclature of weapons for the Su-57 as a whole will remain traditional for aircraft of this class, but thanks to improved sighting systems, accuracy will significantly increase.
So, missiles for combat at short and medium distances will automatically track targets by thermal and magnetic trail and be guided by an optoelectronic head.
“The accuracy characteristics will increase by 30-40 percent,” Popov said. “These are very good indicators of combat capabilities for detection and homing. Modern missiles strike with precision to a meter. The same applies to long-range ammunition. True, radar plays a big role here, also and thermal components”
The miniaturization of electronic equipment of modern missiles allows you to strengthen the warhead of ammunition by increasing the charge.
The probability of hitting a target and, as a result, the overall effectiveness of weapons increase significantly. Su-57 will be able to fight with any objects both in the air and on the ground – dynamic and ballistic targets, as well as small ones, such as drones.
The control in combat of all systems of a promising aircraft, the use of weapons, the organization of defense and multi-mode intelligent pilot support are tied to a powerful computing system.
The computer automatically recognizes and determines the most dangerous and priority targets, builds the optimal flight route, tells the pilot when and what weapons to use.
To search and detect targets, the Su-57 has several new generation radars. In addition to the radar with an active phased antenna array in the front of the aircraft, there are side-view stations operating in different bands. The Su-57 can easily find any aircraft in the sky over hundreds of kilometers, including those built using stealth technology.
A feature of fifth-generation fighter aircraft is the fuselage deployment of weapons. Due to the fact that there are no bombs and missiles at the external points of the suspension, the effective dispersion surface and, accordingly, the visibility of the aircraft are reduced.
In two capacious compartments of the Su-57 will fit several dozen different ammunition.
Previously, this was only on massive strategic bombers, so arms developers had to solve a difficult task: to design missiles with smaller dimensions, equip them with folding wings and rudders, which are revealed only after the ammunition is dropped. Difficulties arose due to additional loads on the aircraft when launching missiles from an enclosed space.
The ratio of the combat load that the Su-57 is capable of taking to its mass is much higher than that of fighters of past generations. This was achieved through composite materials.
“In the Su-30SM and Su-35, for example, up to 25 percent of the materials are not metals,” Popov says. “Composites, fiberglass, Kevlar fabrics, various resins. At the same time, the structural strength is preserved. On the Su-57 there are about 35 percent This is a lot, so the fighter turned out to be much lighter with similar dimensions. In addition, the new engine gives an increase in traction ratio by another 15 percent.”
The brand name of the new aircraft is the ability to work in tandem with the S-70 Hunter unmanned system. A heavy drone and a fighter learned to fly in a bunch – last year the Ministry of Defense published a video in which they maneuver in the air at a minimum distance from each other.
According to experts, in the future it will be possible to create whole swarms of “Hunters” operating independently or under the control and control of just one Su-57 pilot. The shock potential of such battle groups will increase significantly.
