US intelligence plane failed to escape a Russian Su-27 fighter over Black Sea

MOSCOW, (BM) – Russian Su-27 fighters were lifted into the air to “intercept” US reconnaissance aircraft found over the Black Sea, the Russian Defense Center of the Russian Federation reported June 29, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

Over the international waters of the Black Sea, a US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol plane and a US Air Force strategic reconnaissance aircraft RC-135 were discovered.

“On June 29, 2020, the Southern Military District air defense duty personnel over the neutral waters of the Black Sea discovered and escorted a US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft and a US Air Force strategic reconnaissance aircraft RC-135,” the statement said. center.

“To intercept targets, Su-27 fighters from the duty forces on the air defense of the Southern Military District took off. There was no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation,” the Russian military explains.

It is emphasized that all the actions of Russian fighters strictly corresponded to the International Rules for the Use of Airspace over Neutral Waters.

In April, Russian fighters made a dangerous interception

BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that on April 16 the USA talked about the “dangerous” interception of their aircraft by a Russian Su-35 fighter, according the press release of the Sixth Fleet of the American Navy.

“We identified this meeting as unsafe, since the Su-35 maneuvered at high speed with the belly up at a distance of 25 feet,” the message says. It is also noted that as a result of this, the pilots and crew of the American patrol aircraft P-8A Poseidon were at risk.

After meeting with a Russian fighter, the crew of the American aircraft announced a wave of turbulence. The entire interception, according to the Navy, lasted about 42 minutes.

The Sixth Fleet called such actions “irresponsible” and called on Russia to comply with international standards that were set to ensure security and prevent incidents. It is noted that the American “plane did not provoke Russian actions.”

The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet responded to these statements. However, the military department has repeatedly stated that all Russian Airspace Forces flights were and are being carried out in strict accordance with international rules.

On April 8, American F-22 fighter jets intercepted two Russian IL-38 anti-submarine aircraft in the Bering Sea region. Russian aircraft entered the Alaska air defense identification zone, but did not violate the airspace.

The Su-27 is a fourth-generation Soviet and Russian all-weather all-weather supersonic heavy fighter developed at the Sukhoi Design Bureau and designed to gain superiority in the air.
