North Korea: ‘We’ll build a more confident force to counter US military threats’
PYONGYANG, (BM) – North Korea announced that it intends to build a “more confident force” to counter military threats from the United States and accused Washington of seeking to deepen tensions between the two countries, reports BulgarianMilitary.com.
The North Korean foreign minister, Ri Sun Gwon, said, according to the official Korean Central Agency in the country, that the relations between the two parties entered a “state of despair”, saying that the United States is showing “a diabolical insistence to deepen the existing tensions.”
Ri Sun Gwon noted that the continuation of contacts between North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, and US President Donald Trump, has not led to an improvement in relations between the two countries.
He stressed that US policies show that they still represent a “long-term risk” for North Korea, adding: “We will build a more confident force to counter US military threats.”
In 2018, North Korea and the United States started direct negotiations on resolving tensions on the Korean peninsula that resulted in a significant change in the tone of the statements of Trump and Kim Jong-un, who held three bilateral meetings in an unprecedented event in the history of the two countries, but the relations between the two parties later witnessed tensions. New with no progress recorded in the negotiating process that was halted in late 2019.
