Leaving Germany, the US should take back their nuclear weapons, Russia said

MOSCOW, (BM) – When withdrawing US troops from Germany, the United States should also remove non-strategic nuclear weapons, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a briefing on June 11, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

Zakharova recalled that non-strategic US nuclear weapons are located in Germany. And she offered to take him out of Germany in the event that “if Washington is really going to gradually liberate German soil from US units and armed forces.”

In addition, she noted that Washington is conducting exercises to develop techniques for handling such weapons, including involving non-nuclear NATO members. “And this obviously violates the basic provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” Zakharova emphasized.

Earlier, on June 5, Reuters, referring to the words of a senior US official, announced the order of US President Donald Trump to reduce the US contingent in Germany by September. The official told Reuters that by the fall, units of 9.5 thousand military will be withdrawn from Germany.

The next day it became clear that the US government did not notify the German authorities of the decision to reduce the number of US military deployed in Germany, which can be considered a provocation, the German newspaper Der Spiegel wrote.

“We were informed that the US government did not inform, as usual, its NATO partner, Germany, about the decision to reduce the number of troops. Given the importance of this decision, one can regard it as provocation,” Der Spiegel noted in the publication.
