Russia and Israel could get involved in a military conflict between Greece and Turkey
MOSCOW, (BM) – Russian military analysts have made an interesting assumption if a military conflict breaks out between Greece and Turkey. According to them, Israel is currently following with interest the relations between the two Balkan countries, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing Vzglyad and 9tv news agency.

The Israeli authorities are witnessing a very serious deterioration in relations between Turkey and Greece, and they [analysts – ed.] believe that if Russia wants to support Athens, then Israel will certainly have to intervene in a possible military conflict and provide Turkey with any possible support.
At the same time Greece can count on Russia’s support in the event of a war with Turkey. This is the meaning of the article published in the Russian edition of Vzglyad: it analyzes the possible consequences of the Greco-Turkish “oil” confrontation.
“The already cloudless relations between the two countries sharply escalated against the background of Ankara’s intentions to begin exploration and development of oil and gas deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean, near the Greek islands of Crete, Karpathos and Rhodes. Ankara stated that they have every right to do so, since the islands do not have a continental shelf. Athens, in turn, insists that the islands are subject to international maritime law, according to which the waters washing the island of the state are considered to be its exclusive economic zone. The Greek-Turkish dispute also affects Israeli interests, because Turkey insists on agreeing with it everything regarding the laying of the EastMed gas pipeline in the Turkish part of Cyprus,” the Israeli 9tv news agency reported.
It should be clarified that, according to some assumptions of experts, the current destabilization of the situation in Syria may be directly related to some unspoken agreements between Turkey and Israel, as several times Israeli aircraft attacked the positions of the Syrian military in Aleppo province.
I.e. This situation does not threaten Israeli interests, but at the same time the appearance of heavy weapons in Syria affects the capabilities of the Syrian army to launch a large-scale attack on the positions of Turkish militants.
Thus, Damascus is unable to take control of the north-western part of the country and drive the Turkish invaders from its territory.
Greece is ready for all possible scenarios, including a military clash, Greek Defense Minister Nikolaos Panayotopoulos said on June 4, commenting on television the development of the situation around Turkey’s plans to develop hydrocarbons near the Greek islands.

“We will do what is required in order to protect our sovereign rights to the absolute extent. So, the smart one will understand,” said Panayotopoulos.
At the same time the Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar appealed on June 7 to the commanders of the border troops, saying that the republic has the necessary power to protect the interests and rights of the country in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.
“We want to solve our problems in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean in accordance with international law. So far, we have completed these tasks and will continue to carry them out. We say that, on the one hand, problems can be solved peacefully, and on the other hand, as the Turkish armed forces, we are persistent and decisive in protecting our interests and our rights, and we have the power necessary for this,” he said.
