Turkey: If the Greeks wants military clashes, we’re ready to respond them

ANKARA, (BM) – Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar appealed today to the commanders of the border troops, saying that the republic has the necessary power to protect the interests and rights of the country in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

“We want to solve our problems in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean in accordance with international law. So far, we have completed these tasks and will continue to carry them out. We say that, on the one hand, problems can be solved peacefully, and on the other hand, as the Turkish armed forces, we are persistent and decisive in protecting our interests and our rights, and we have the power necessary for this,” he said.

We remaind you that Greek Defense Minister Nikolaos Panayotopoulos commented on June 4 the development of the situation around Turkey’s plans to develop hydrocarbons near the Greek islands and that Greece is ready for all possible scenarios, including a military clash.

“We will do what is required in order to protect our sovereign rights to the absolute extent. So, the smart one will understand,” said Panayotopoulos.

The Minister admitted that recently Turkey’s actions are “quite aggressive”. He said that in his opinion, Greece has only one answer: “on the one hand, exhaust all diplomatic means, and on the other, take care of strengthening the deterrent potential of the armed forces”.

In response to the question whether Greece is ready for the last scenario, Panayotopoulos replied: “Exactly! The day before yesterday, the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister’s office announced that we were getting ready for all opportunities. Among all these possibilities, of course, there is a military clash.”

Recall, May 29, Turkey announced that it intends to begin developing hydrocarbon deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean, which Greece considers its exclusive economic zone, since it is located near the Greek islands. The Turkish National Security Council announced on June 2 that it intends to fight for its interests “without any compromises”.
