The French Sherpa with its thousandth armored vehicle
PARIS, (BM) – The French company Arquus Defense announced the completion of the assembly of the 1000th Sherpa armored vehicle, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
As noted, this is an important step in the Sherpa BBM development program, which has been produced and improved since 2006. The armored car was first introduced 14 years ago during the Eurosatory 2006 exhibition.

Sherpa armored vehicles, used during various conflicts in several configurations, are armed with a number of power structures, which testifies to the quality of their design and production, as well as the universality of the project. In various versions of “Sherpa” can be used to solve a wide range of tasks.
Currently, the Sherpa family includes four basic models: Sherpa Scout, designed to provide communications and reconnaissance and designed to carry 4-5 troops, a transport machine designed to transport troops or systems, armored personnel carriers for the safe transportation of troops and a car for MTR, designed for operations behind enemy lines.
According to developers, Sherpa is popular due to its compactness and high mobility, which provide high versatility of the machine and the possibility of its further modernization. Due to its wide capabilities, the armored car retains its relevance in the market. So, recently, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) acquired Sherpa as a platform for communications systems to equip ISAF (International Security Assistance Forces) forces in Afghanistan.
In 2014, Arquus developed the Assault Ladder version, which provides ample opportunity to combat organized crime and terrorism. India, the Brazilian federal police, as well as the anti-terrorist unit of the French gendarmerie GIGN (Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale) soon chose this version. Assault Ladder is used in all GIGN special operations.
In 2016, French Minister of Defense Jean-Yves Le Drian announced the signing of a contract for the supply of 300 units. Sherpa in Kuwait. Cars were shown during the DGA-2019 exhibition in Kuwait.

Arquus has been assembling Sherpa since 2006 on the production line of the enterprise in Limoges. The plant in Garshisi provides the supply of armored vehicle bodies. In 2019, the enterprise in Limoges set a record by collecting more than 200 Sherpa armored vehicles.
