Russian fighters will attack Turkish forces in large-scale operation, LNA said

TRIPOLI, (BM) – Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar threatened to carry out the largest air operation in the near future with the possible participation of Russian aircraft. This is reported by Afrigatenews and Anadolu, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

LNA Air Force Commander Sakr al-Jarushi announced preparations for the largest air operation in the country’s history. “All the objects and interests of Turkey in all occupied cities are a legitimate target,” he said. A Haftar spokesman also noted that the coming hours would be “painful for a madman.”

Afrigatenews believes that by this definition was meant Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to the Minister of the Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fathi Bashag, Russia sent eight planes in transit through Syria to Haftar. We are talking about six MiG-29 and two Sukhoi Su-24.

On May 20, Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar announced a change in the balance of power in Libya. He stressed that now the Government of National Accord (GNA) has an advantage over the Libyan National Army (LNA) of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. According to the minister, the success of the PNS was made possible thanks to the support of Turkish military consultants, as well as their assistance to the army in organizing military training.

On May 18, it became known that GNA forces, with the support of Turkish security forces, drove the LNA from the air base near Tripoli. This base was of great strategic importance to Haftar: it was used in the operation to capture the capital of Libya.

In Libya, there are two executive bodies in parallel: an internationally recognized GNA and a temporary cabinet operating in the east of the country in conjunction with the parliament and the LNA. In 2011, a civil war broke out there, Muammar Gaddafi, who ruled the country since 1969, was overthrown and killed.

In Libya, armed clashes are currently taking place between supporters of different leaders. The country is led by the Government of National Accord (GNA), headed by Prime Minister Fayez Saraj, the “eastern government” led by Abdullah Abdurrahaman at-Thani.

The eastern government is supported by the commander of the Libyan National Army, Khalifa Haftar.

Recall that January 13 in Moscow, negotiations were held between the heads of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalif Haftar and the Government of National Accord (GNA) Faiz Sarraj. Also present were members of the Foreign Ministries of Russia and Turkey.

On the meeting the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, has notified Russia about the conditions for continuing negotiations on the signing of a peace agreement in Libya.

According to the requirements of Haftar, the militias operating in Libya are required to surrender weapons in the period from 45 to 90 days. This process should be controlled by a special commission created by the LNA together with the UN

Haftar also refused to recognize Turkey as an intermediary in resolving the situation in Libya, since the Turkish side is not neutral and supports the Government of National Accord (GNA).
