“The Department of Defense is conducting a thorough investigation into whether a possible data leak could have affected security,” he said at a news conference in Tokyo.

Earlier, the Japanese newspaper Asahi reported that a hacker attack was committed on Mitsubishi Electric, as a result of which attackers could gain access to the operational characteristics of hypersonic missiles. The Ministry of Defense of Japan sent the data to several companies that may be engaged in the creation of a prototype. Among the applicants, according to the newspaper, was Mitsubishi Electric.

This is not the first such case. In early January, it became known about a major hacker attack on Mitsubishi Electric, as a result of which attackers gained access to at least 120 computers and 40 servers of the company.

In late April, it became known that the Japanese Procurement, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) launched a program to develop a hypersonic guided missile designed to destroy ships and ground targets. ATLA has contracted with Mitsubishi to develop a dual-mode ramjet engine for this promising munition.
