The newest Russian nuclear sub with 16 ballistic missiles is ready for combat duty

MOSCOW, (BM) – The strategic nuclear missile submarine Prince Vladimir – Borey-A went to sea for control tests before being included in the Russian Navy, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing a TASS source.

“Prince Vladimir left on Tuesday from Severodvinsk to the White Sea for control tests, based on which a decision will be made on the introduction of a submarine in the Navy,” the agency’s source said.

Another source told TASS that, according to preliminary data, the submarine should be taken into combat duty by the end of May.

“Prince Vladimir” – the first ship of the project 955A “Borey-A”. He completely passed state tests, having completed the Bulava missile-launch intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in the fall of 2019.

At different stages of construction on the Sevmash are four Borea-A. In addition, a contract was signed for the construction of two more missile carriers of this project. There are also plans to build an additional two Borey-A.

Submarines of projects 955 and 955A were developed by the Central Design Bureau of marine equipment Rubin (part of the USC). Each of them carries 16 Bulava ICBMs. Currently, the Northern and Pacific fleets are three missile carriers of project 955.
