Russia decided when the first batch of S-500 missile systems goes into service

MOSCOW, (BM) – The first S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) can enter the Russian Armed Forces in 2021. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense Alexei Krivoruchko to the National Defense magazine, learned

“The completion of state tests and the transfer of the system to the armed forces is planned in 2021,” Krivoruchko said. According to him, the serial supply of systems will begin in 2025. Now the air defense systems are undergoing preliminary tests, Krivoruchko specified.

In February, Krivoruchko said that the S-500 air defense system would be ready for delivery to the troops in 2020. Then he noted that the air defense missile defense forces had already conducted part of the complex’s tests in 2019.

“Interception in the upper atmosphere is real. It is hundreds of kilometers from the Earth. <…> This is a system that solves a whole range of tasks of both air defense and missile defense. Today we are working out the elements of the system with the maximum cost savings allocated for testing,” Sozinov said in an interview with Arkady Mamontov in his YouTube program.

According to the general designer, the S-500 has no analogues in the world and solves a whole range of tasks of both air defense and missile defense. Now the developers are testing the elements of the system with maximum savings on the funds allocated for testing.

“We tried to make a forecast for the next 25 years on the development of aerospace attack weapons and believe that it will be very reliable in terms of the characteristics that a potential adversary can achieve in this period of time.
