US plans to purchase weapons and special ammunition from former USSR countries
WASHINGTON, (BM) – The United States intends to acquire special ammunition and weapons systems that are “produced and used by the countries of the former USSR or the Eastern Bloc.”
This is stated in the application of the US Army Office of Contractor Relations in Rock Island, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing RT.
According to the document, the purchase of special ammunition and weapons systems (SAWS) is necessary for the US Department of Defense, other US departments and foreign allies “for the purpose of conducting tests and exercises, as well as combat use.”
For the purposes of this procurement, the terms SAWS and “munitions that do not comply with NATO standards” refer mainly to munitions and weapons that are produced and used by the countries of the former USSR or the Eastern bloc.
As stated in the application, the U.S. Army Contractor Relations Office plans to conclude a five-year contract with several suppliers with an undefined delivery date for the purchase and delivery of ammunition and weapons systems to locations in the continental United States and beyond.
Previously, the Pentagon placed an application for the purchase of supplies for weapons that are not used in NATO, including for a Kalashnikov assault rifle, Tokarev and Makarov pistols.
This will not be the first time the US has purchased weapons from ex-socialist countries.
We recall that the Pentagon spent nearly $ 2.2 billion years ago to equip rebels in Syria who were fighting to overthrow the Bashar al-Assad regime.
Subsequently, many of these weapons ended up in the hands of terrorist groups, including IDIL.
Last but not least, there is still no official comment from the US regarding counterfeit documents and end-user certificates, the reason why many manufactured weapons from Eastern Europe fall into the hands of terrorists.
